if you simply modulate your foot pressure on the brake, you can find the spot to keep the engine running and stay put without shutting off when you're waiting for your door to open...or for the all to familiar, oh my god someone is going to drive into the back of me fear if i dont jackrabbit from a stop moments.

And it is just as easy to reach down and turn the system off. And being disabled I am going to make sure that I operate my vehicles safety within my capabilities. Which for me means reaching down and turning the auto start stop system off or shifting the transmission into sports mode.

And now I remember why I haven't posted to this forum in a while. People seem to get upset, rude, or snarky if you have a different opinion.

To each their own. If you like the auto start stop system and want to use it. more power to you. And for those that do not like it, either reach down and turn it off or disable it.

I use the auto-start/stop when appropriate. I don’t run into stop and go traffic often (I live in a fairly small town in TN). I read somewhere that 10 secs is the sweet number... if it’s shuts down for 10 secs each time, it can add up. I’m 36 and granny it mostly, so I average 25mpg on primo octane. Short bursts appease my younger side when the urge hits. It’s all about the brake peddle... think you’re going to be sitting less than 10 secs? Ease with brake, creep forward, find the sweet spot between stoping and the auto-stop. It’s there. Or hit the button to inhibit it. There longer than 10 secs? Come to a stop, and firm up on the brake peddle to engage the auto-stop/start. Analyze what you get over time. You’ll figure it out.

As for wear on the starter... it’s designed to donut. Let it do it’s job. This isn’t the 70’s, or 80’s, or 90’s, or 2000’s.

Cheers ???

Only time I turn it off is in the heat of the summer. No engine running = no AC.

I have a hybrid Sonata I used to use to commute to work in a lot of stop and go traffic. Talk about awsome mpg. Weird to fill up the small tank and see 550 miles to empty. The electric kicks in even at 60+ mph. WIfe has it now. We use it for long trips.

I would love to get the hybrid F-150 but these trucks are just becoming to expensive.

In stop and go traffic I hate it. Stop engine off, roll forward engine on, stop engine off again 15 times in 5 minutes drives me nuts. I know all of the "all day" lights in my area, and will use it then sometimes. However, I just bought a battery operated mower for trimming, so I guess it all evens out. :)

@AzScorpion BTW Dave, I do have my trusty LED night light plugged in most of the time. That's the trick of the century. I just hope it will work in the new Bronco also. :)

Trucks designed for it, I leave mine on 24/7 and I hardly even notice it now. Funny part about most of the people who complain about it and turn it off or disable it is that they will also turn around and tell you letting it idle is bad for the engine lol. Just do whatever feels better to you. As far as mpg goes, I have no idea. I installed a tune and my foot has gotten much heavier ??‍♂

With gas prices headed north of $3.00 and maybe $4.00 this summer, I'll bet a lot of people start converting over to love the A.S.S. Feature.

I actually like and prefer it.

Gas could go to $10/gal and I still won't use it. ;)

I disable mine because it is irritating. Sometimes when it starts up, I can hear it stumbling instead of starting smoothly and also don't care for the principle of this system. You would think that the designer of this system would have come up with something more practical for saving fuel...a fool-proof development within the fuel system itself. Haven't checked the mpg with or without it engaged. Plan to check mpg soon and then periodically monitor after that. I drive employing all the methods for economical gas mileage and use 89 octane top tier rated gas.

I'm not an expert but I don't think the real idea behind the Start/Stop systems is fuel economy. I think they pitch it to customers that way, but the reality is Ford has to meet Idle Emissions requirements and that's probably the simplest/cheapest way to do so.

With all the hassles I had getting the starter assembly replaced when it was failing in that first year.. and the others who had the same issue, I'm not believing much in the "starter has been designed to handle it".
Sport mode for me

That may be Ford's purpose for adding it, but that doesn't mean it doesn't also increase fuel economy and help the customer. They don't need to be mutually exclusive. A lot of things are added to meet regulations, but the end user does benefit from them as well.
Oh no, sorry I didn't mean to imply that. You are 100% correct. I just think that adds some context to the 'it only saves .0001mpg' argument

as others will say, you dont see alot of huge gains individually.
if you do alot of stop and go, you'll be on the better side of saving fuel, but if you do one or two stops per trip, you wont.
but its still not a waste even if youre an occasional user.
the benefits come in a global landscape, when you add up the cumulative savings across the continent. it makes a difference.

now some people wont care. they DGAF, and you'll never change their mind. Some of them think rolling coal is cool. Its like talking to a rock sometimes.
but if you figure on saving a litre a week with your driving habits, thats 52 litres a year (like $70) for one car....multiply that by hundreds of thousands of cars doing the same, and you can appreciate the benefits if you care about the environment.

if you dont, i cant change your way of thinking. I just forward your information to Greta, she's a major bitch about the environment

how dare you!!!!

Thanks for the perspective...I was thinking of trying to permanently disable this feature, not buying 100% into the personal savings aspect of it. I never really looked at the issue through a macro lens. Great point!

(please don't give my info to Greta!!)
