I saw @AzScorpion's post on the 6g forum, and was curious if anyone's had a Revelco Anti-Theft device installed in their 5g? If yes, how do you like it?

The website is super outdated, so I'm trying to understand how compatible it is with modern vehicles.

1) What connections does it actually on a modern vehicle like the 5g?
2) Have you had issues of reliable, in the case that it breaks a communication bus (for example) instead of something more of a standard mechanical connection like starter relay, etc?

I have a viper alarm system, but that doesn't prevent theft...

Going to have it installed on 3 of my vehicles. Two new Jeeps and one new Ranger. I believe I did a lot of homework on that and so far zero negativity all positive replies. They wire it up to three different electronic circuits, and the wires are pretty much hidden to blend in with your factory wire harnesses. Supposedly they never lost a car to being hot wired. Towed away - yes, but not hot wired.

TAG also claims to have found all vehicles stolen. Of course, if it was a joyride, you may not want it back TAG does not 'stop' a theft.

Not in the market for this, but being curious, I have some thoughts/questions.

Does this kill all the fob and FordPass features? Can you start your truck with the fob or FordPass with this?

Will the door unlock by touch with this installed?

Frank, here's the link to Revelco and they should cover all that. There's a Q&A section there too.

I called up the manufacture, and spoke to them for a while. They are more than happy to answer all of your questions, and the only answer I have for you is on the remote start. It will not remote start if you have the key plug not installed. That’s the whole idea to protect your vehicle from being stolen that nobody can hotwire it with three different circuits disabled, unless the key plug is installed. I thought about not having a remote start for a while and that is a very small price to pay for 100% guarantee that it will not be Hot wired one way or another.

I just saw the install pictures on their site. It pretty much answers this because you can see that the plug has to be in for it to start. I guess if it's in your garage or you're in a "safe" area you could leave the plug in so you could remote start it. Remote start is kind of necessary here during the summer months because of our high temps. Plus I'd like to have them mount it down by the OBD port so it's not an eyesore. Some of places they mounted it are terrible by looking at those pictures.

I would not be happy to find they mounted it like this.

This looks much better.

Wow. If I was that worried I would move.

They mount it where you want it. I myself was planning on making a few bullet proof brackets to support it by the OBD port. I was going to mount it by the kick panel underneath the dash and move the OBD port over an inch or two for a nice clean look.

Thanks.

Seems great for folks in a high theft area, or maybe fleet vehicles. I think for those in a low theft area you would loose a lot of the tech you paid for on higher trim levels.

The problem now is crime is everywhere now. My area was very safe and but now that it's doubled in size so has the crime rate. They're stealing catalytic converters in broad daylight right in the grocery store parking lots. Plus some people travel a lot for work so they can't pick and chose which areas they go in. While it's pricey so are the vehicles now so it's just added protection and piece of mind for some.

I know you are right I just have a problem accepting it.

Trust me I don't like it and and have a hard time accepting it too. We should be able to have nice things and not worry about them because some dirt bag wants your stuff. I just try and protect my stuff the best I can with an alarm and cameras at my house and being aware where I leave my vehicle. I don't have a Revelco device but have considered getting one on my next truck. Times are changing and sadly not for the better my friend. The days of leaving your windows in your house open all night and your vehicle parked outside are a thing of the past in most places today. :(

Lots of useful opinions on this, thanks.
Does anyone know of someone who's actually installed it in a 5g already?

Also, just a warning to those who might get this installed: check out the photos in this post. Make sure your installer connects the Ground wire.
I mention that because Ravelco says there are 100,000 combinations to the plug and no universal caps (making it hard to steal), but look at how the cap's pins are connected in this instance, and imagine what happens if they forgot (or ignored) to connect the 5th ground wire.
If someone fabricated a cap that just had ALL pins connected together to each of the two the corresponding metal bus plates, this generic everything-connected cap would connect the pins correctly, regardless of which pin position the wires are connected to.
However, if the 5th Ground wire is installed, it insures that a universal cap would short out any input to ground, even if the cap also connects pairs of wires correctly, thereby blowing a fuse (which is good).

But in the link above, the ground wire wasn't connected by the installer, so the universal cap would have worked.

Of course, I bet thieves won't even try this, because most systems are correctly installed. But, personally, i'd like to know my system is installed to include that actually functioning deterrent, vs just the impression of having it.
