Anyone else have problem with Wildpeaks?

This. These balancers have a heavy drum that puts a load on the wheel/tire assembly while it's being balanced. They can detect things like a tire that is out-of-round or has a slipped belt, etc.

I’ve had these road forced twice and once by regular old school spin balancer.

Have you tried rotating the tires? See if the vibration moves? If it goes from a severe "whole vehicle" vibration to a wobbly steering wheel, you've got your answer.

I had mine balanced twice, Lil shimmy at 70+ so the shop added a bag of balance beads to each tire,leaving the original balance weights on it for low speed, truck rides fantastic now! P285 70 17s

So this weekend I took a 300 trip to my dad’s house and towed a car back for him, a 2007 Corolla using a tow dolly from U-Haul. The truck handled great as far as pulling, even through hill, however the ride was miserable!!! Severe shaking at anything over 65. I get vibration with these tires normally but have been managing, but this was insane. I had aired up to 40 as well.

When I get to my dads town, I had a local shop balance all the tires, they said they were a little off but nothing too bad.

Fast forward to my trip back, on the rougher, not as well kept sections of the highway my ride was miserable again. Anything over 70 and truck would vibrate. Everything in my seats, including rear seats was shaking. No load this time.

I’ve had these tires balanced 3 times now and same issue.

I don’t think it’s the truck and here’s why, when I bought it new, with the stock 18” STX rims and Hankook tires I took it on a 500 trip and the ride was great.

Mods: Aside from these tires: 17” Ford Sport rims, eibach front struts set at 3”.

alignment is perfect and been verified.

My only conclusion is the tires, unless the front lift somehow screwed things up.

Steve, just a thought but were you off road at all prior to this happening? Was thinking maybe there could be a slight bend in a skid plate or in one of the wheels that's not noticeable if you came down hard on something.

I came off an off camber turn on a huge rock last fall up in UT and noticed a vibration under my seat afterwards. Yes, insert joke here. ? It turned out I bent the tranny skid plate just enough to where it was resting up against it and caused the vibration. Hopefully they can figure this out for you.

You can probably order the beads online and put the bag in, doesn't require taking the tire off the wheel just air down and push the bead down enough fo drop in the bag. Centrifugal force breaks the bag.

I saw the bags, don't recall how heavy they where but they where the size of a corn hole bag. You can call the shop and ask for David or Rusty and ask then which bag they ordered.

It was worth a shot. ? Sometimes it's just something dumb you forgot you did at least that's my excuse. lol Good luck with it as it's a pain when you cant figure out something that seems like it should be a simple rebalance.

If you towed an empty tow dolly on the trip out...
I blame the The tow dolly. They are normally bad to tow and U-haul doesn't balance or maintain them well. Also the car and dolly combo could cause problems. In my experience, every tow dolly jerks and bounces badly when towed without a load.

I did have a load. I towed a Corolla. On the way back, I towed nothing. Left the tow dolly at the U-haul

I wasn't clear on that point. My philosophy is to always check the easy cheap and obvious first!

Did you put any spacers? Another item to check is eccentricity and roundness. An eccentric or out-of-round tire or wheel can mimic a balance problem. This should be detected by a Road Force balance, but it's still worth a check for an elusive problem. Lift the wheel off the ground and rotate it while checking for out-of-round / eccentricity. Hold something (s dial indicator if you have one) very steady close to the surface of the tire and make sure the distance to this fixed reference doesn't change. Do this for the tire and also for the wheel.

This can be caused by several simple things, first the tire mounting / bead seating. Sometimes the tire can sometimes fail to seat properly on the rim. Carefully examine the tire(s) for proper mounting. There's usually a small ridge near the bead seating area. Make sure the ridge is the same distance from the edge of the rim all the way around the wheel. If there is a trouble here, it can be corrected by simply re-mounting the tire.

Second, the wheel can be bent (not likely), or (more likely) mounted off-center, particularly if it's not the stock OEM wheel. Wheel spacers have been known to contribute to this. If the hub locating feature is a different diameter than the stock wheel, and the lug nut stud holes are slightly larger, there can easily be enough slop to allow the wheel to end up slightly off-center. This can be detected by the same procedure as above, spinning the mounted wheel with a dial indicator or other fixed reference pointer close to the edge of the rim and carefully observing or measuring and making sure the tire and wheel are running true. The fix is re-mounting the wheel, or getting a different wheel that fits better.

If all this doesn't show anything out of the ordinary, check the tire pressure. There are a lot of sub-standard mechanics changing tires these days, at least in South Florida where I live. When I got my first set of BFGs installed on my Mazda B3000 at Sears , not only did the grease monkeys push my truck off the lift, crushing both of my rocker panels, (Sears paid dearly for this) they filled the tires to the pressure "shown on the sidewall" (please note that this pressure is the MAX ALLOWABLE pressure - 50 psi ). I wondered why the tires rode like rocks and were super noisy on the ride home. I was very disappointed, because these tires get good reviews, but mine kinda sucked. I wouldn't have even thought to check the pressure, except I noticed there was a thin stripe of sand right down the middle of both rear tires, as if the edges were not making contact with the road surface. I got a pressure gauge, and it pegged out at 45 psi. I aired them down to the right pressure and they were great ever after.

Also see if there is any unusual wear, like cupping, tapering surfaces or any other uneven wear, as this can cause vibration and noise.

None of these things will be detected by a balance machine, although most of this 'should' be detected by a "road-force" balance machine. But not all operators know what they are doing.

I love my Wildpeaks, no issues at all! I hope you find out what is wrong, but, unless you got a defective set, I doubt that they are the culprit....
