Last thing I wanted to check before my trip to Ohio tomorrow was the spare tire pressure. Then I noticed this in the passenger rear tire. F**K! The tires have just shy of 3k on them, and the screw is not very big, so I don't have any reason to believe in penetrated thru. It hasn't been losing air. However, I am hesitant to take it out.

Gotta pull it...longer it stays in, if you drive, it will drive it in even further. Good thing is it appears to be in the "thick" part of the tread, and might not have even penitrated all the way.

My theory was it would eventually wear down the head and what remained would keep the potential hole plugged. Not saying it was a good theory. If I pull it, it would be right before I leave, and if it made a hissing noise, could fuck the whole trip up.

I have used these for years for small punctures. Great quick fix that have lasted the life of the tire.

Ok, tried to remove it, in the dark, 8mm socket, got about 1 turn and started hissing. FUCK! Since dealer is not far out of the way and plugs tires pretty cheap, gonna stop there before my trek to Oh. Thanks all!

I think Discount tire direct will patch it for free. I bought my last tires an found this out.

Some places won't plug them any longer, just patch them.

When I was in the navy they would ship our household stuff in giant crates that were nailed an screwed shut. I always got stuff in my tires in my tires in base housing since they were always opening crates there.

My experience, Discount Tire will fix for free even if you didn't buy them there. They will patch not plug.

FTW! And bummer that it went all the way through, bah!!! =(

I've used plugs for many, many years and your issue would be perfect for a long lasting repair.

Too bad you're not my neighbor. My current plug kit will out last me with 60 plugs!

These last-minute issues before an important trip are stressful.

Decades ago, I was about to head from Toronto to Vancouver in my old Pontiac when my dash lights would not come on. It took “forever” to figure it out. It turned out that an almost empty roll of Certs had fallen into the cigarette lighter in the console, and the foil wrapping blew the fuse. It was nearly impossible to find a fuse at 2:00 am in 1987.

In the end, things worked out. Take a deep breath, take the time to get your tire fixed, and then enjoy the ride.

Being that is fairly close to the edge of the tire, they may refuse to patch and say a new tire is needed. A plug should do fine in this case.

That looks like it might be a screw for a metal roof or a deck joist hanger. Bloody contractors!

?

I hope you got underway safely today. ?

Well, at least you got 3k. I had the same thing happen to my Tremor on the drive back home from the dealership the day I bought it.

Didn't look bad (like you're thinking); in fact, looked just like yours (screw size, location, etc.). Turned out it went all the way through and needed a plug/patch. Didn't plan on spending that $50 that day, but glad I got it looked at.

Better safe than sorry is my advice.

Hate to see that on a new tire. :frown: You can take advantage of our Free Flat Repair service a your local Discount Tire location.
