Those AMP power steps are really nice. I hope your surgery goes well for you Bill and the steps help you once you recover.

So earlier today I ordered a set of those AMP Research power steps for the Ranger.

I had them on a lifted GMC 1/2 Ton and it was a game changer for my wife (5' - 100lbs), getting into and out of the cab. I like the way the steps deploy, landing about 1/2 way between the ground and the cab, so when you step up, you land square in the seat with no major head duck or drag across the bolster. I also like the tucked up out of the way look they have when the doors are closed.

Clearly my stock FX4 is not as high as that lifted GMC truck, but a hip issue I have now has me lifting my leg with an arm to help me get into the cab. I have a hip replacement surgery scheduled in 3 weeks and my ingress and egress is going to be super challenged without any step assistance after that is done, so I decided I would install them before the operation. After I have fully recovered from the surgery, I plan to add the Fox 2.0 FPT dampers and level, perhaps the Tremor leaf springs as well, so having the steps after all that will be even better.

If I can remember to take some shots while installing the steps I will and in any case will do a photoshoot after to be posted on how they look and operate once I get them on the truck.
LOL... how I know the feeling... I've had both hips replaced... what will go through your mind afterwords is: Why did I wait so long???

And, 3 weeks ago, I had the Amp Research steps installed on my 2019 Ranger SC. Really nice. Only thing is, when they retract, there is quite a thunk... no soft landing.
I asked other users here on the forum if that was "normal" and the answer was yes.

After I had them installed, I had the outs side painted matching body color... They blend right in now.

Pretty much everyone I know that has had a hip replaced says that same thing.

I took a bad fall a few years ago when we were building our current house. I thought I had broken something for sure. After a half hour or so laying there, I starting trying things to see what was broken and finally realized I was whole. We fashioned a crutch from some 2x4’s and I made it out of there.

Maybe about a year ago it started to bother me enough I went in for some xrays. My doc called me that same afternoon and said, “it is really bad, you are going to need a new hip”. I asked when and he said, “when you can’t stand the pain any longer”. He knew what he was talking about.

It is difficult enough now getting in and out, I figured I better install those things while I am still ambulatory.

They do make a lot of noise when deploying and stowing, but I liked everything about them so much last time, I decided it was a go.

I've installed mine before Xmas last year and I do have the distinct "thunk" when it closes on the driver side only. The passenger side seems quieter. I've adjust and lubricated but with no luck. I've just learned to live with it I guess.

I absolutely love my Amp Power Steps. Exactly the right height. Kudos to the design engineers.

I consider them to be right at the top of my upgrades... expensive, but worth it.

I cancelled the original order as I kept getting emails delaying the expected delivery date.

I could see that big box sitting on the porch for a month while my new hip healed.

I reordered it from Realtruck as soon as I could see I was going to be healing pretty quickly and am back in the every few weeks delayed shipping email game.

I suspect AMP is experiencing the same kind of too many orders and too few chips thing the motor companies are dealing with.

It will get here someday. ;)

I have Tyger stationary running boards on my truck, but keep thinking I'd like to have the AMP steps...but DANG, they are pricey.
Maybe someday I can find a way to justify that kind of expense. But I"m not betting on it.
I hope you get yours soon as I can see it benefitting you immensely.
Hang tough on your rehab!

Thanks Chris, I am back 100% now, not even using a cane.

The AMP steps are nutty expensive. They work so well, the step lands right where you want it to let you land in the seat squarely, not drag the bolster, etc. Getting out is perfect as well. When they fold up they are like they aren't there at all, or even, kind of dress that bottom edge up, hiding the pinch weld along the bottom.

There is a downside off road as if you aren't careful, you can hit rocks, etc. and mar them. I had a scratch on my last ones (1/2 Ton GMC) where I had been careless. The maddening thing about that one was there was an easy line around the rock and just got carried away. It did touch up fine though where you couldn't really see it if you weren't looking for it, but of course, drove me nuts for weeks. :(

I plan to add the Tremor suspension bits in time (Fox shocks and level, Tremor spring pack in back, etc.) and so without some kind of step, I will be doing a major job on the seat bolster getting in and out (even with my planned Carhart seat covers), so I went crazy and ordered them again. ;)

I can tell you from personal experience that it is much easier getting into and out of my 2020 Ranger than my 2005 Ranger, and that it has everything to do with the AMP steps. Both 4x4s, but the 2005 is much lower to the ground.

They are pricey, and since my purchase they have significantly increased in price.

I love my AMP power steps. Best investment for my truck thus far. I'm the tallest in my family so between my wife, daughter, and my mom, they all had a hard time getting in and out of my truck until I had this installed.

One other point for mixed height families!
They sell a switch kit - for like $60!!! that either holds the step up, down, or std door open/close mode. Its sets for maybe 10 min and then goes back to auto. Ie leave the switch in stowed position and it will not come down for a set period of time, even with repeated in and outs of the truck. Once the time out passes it retuurn to door open step deploys (even thought the sw is still in the stowed position.)
I use it all the time when my wife is not with me as my 6-1 legs to do like stepping on or over the step.
Oh and I made my own sw harness for probably $5. I think I posted it in an AMP thread, but PM me with questions if interested.

Would love to do the door handles on my lightning blue xlt. Where did you get the handles from? Part #? Did you have a local shop do the colour match or Ford?

I am considering these for my truck. I like the look of them not being seen except when entering or exiting the truck. I have some questions about them. Does anyone have these on their truck?

Powerstep Running Boards

Questions:

1. Do you like them?
2. Did you install them yourself? If you did, was the install difficult in your garage/driveway?
3. Do they operate well?
4. Any issues?
5. Would you buy them again?

Thanks.

George
