Ok not to hijack this thread but I will. My dad was sponsored by McColough chain saw in 1962. He won world championship go kart racing in Cape Girardeau MO! You can look it up and I’m named after him. He ran the TWIKA series.. yeah i look like him too..

Hours of training plus four exams - that’s a lot of work. Congratulations Kristina.

I’ve known people who had to write four exams for something but it was because they kept having to write the same exam over and over until they finally received a passing grade.

It’s BE I got.

Tell the truth, I got my BE as mail order

The origins of this is that prior to joining EU Finland B drivers license allowed towing up to 3500kg. EU changed the rules and added the "small-E" BE license and everyone who had B at that time could just mail order the BE. Anyone driving the B license after that was only granted the B and was required to take separate exam for the BE.

For the C1E I did have to take a test.

BE allows for me to drive road train max weight 7 tons (7000 kg). B allows 3500 kg and Rangers weight is 3720 kg. There is one category (B96) between B and BE, an easier way to get away without driving school and only one easier driving exam to add 750 kg to 3500 kg what B category license has but that would mean at some point I would end up getting BE anyway. So I went through school, took theory and driving exam, with exercises and city plus highway driving.
At the moment I would like to say - never again! ??

In the end there were three exams in total. I didn’t know first for school there is exam for theory and bunch of tests, no driving exam.
Anyway school was a piece of cake.
Transport Administration from the other hand was far from joking with both exams.

The examiner after exam like why I need license upgrade “You’re going to tow horse trailer?”
Me “No. I have a Ford Ranger.”
He “That makes sense.”

Yup,

B = 3500kg car
BE = 3500kg car + 3500kg trailer = 7000kg
C1 = truck up to 7000kg
C1E = truck up to 7000kg and total combined with trailer 12000kg
C = truck up to maximum legal road limits (42000kg with 5 axle)
CE = combined weight to maximum legal road limits (76000kg with 11 axle) (can be waived with special permit.)

No permit needed = Driving a 390ton capacity dump truck in mine site.
