Merry Christmas to all! I was out wheeling on the 24th, putting the Tremor through a good trail with the wife and kids. It’s probably the 5th time we’ve been out in it since I bought it in early December. It does great! The trails here in New Mexico are amazing and you can rock crawl, climb dunes, technical trails, and fast dirt/washes. On this day I picked a trail I’ve done many times in a lifted Rubicon that is challenging. It did everything with ease with some expected differences. It’s easier to high center in a truck than a Jeep, but I can do 40-50 mph on some raptor like trails that my Jeep would of never been able to do. Overall I’m very pleased.

I found myself needing to get passed a massive sandy hill that is part of a series of obstacles towards the end of the trail. I got a good run at it in 4H, I dug in about 200’ up the hill. I backed down and used 4L with the locker, similar results. I never bogged down, it’s just a traction issue (pretty sandy and very long). I gave it another go or two using the sand/desert TM.

On the last try I used off road cruise control to see if I could muster anything higher than where I finally spun out. It did make it a bit further than I could without it, but after about one or two goes if that I got an advance trac failure, pre-collision failure, and hill start assist failure. So that was weird, I backed down the hill and used an alternate (longer) route out. The failures stayed, but had no impact on how the Ranger acted.

Once I got out and back to normal dirt roads I turned it off and back on and all the failures went away. I got the failures listed in my alerts on Ford Pass as well. I’ve had a few weird things with Fords terrain management system in an F-150 in the past. It seems similar to those in that you reset the system by restarting the vehicle. Ranger runs great, I drove around and looked at Christmas lights later that night with the family.

Have any of you had this before? I figured I’d share the experience since it was interesting.

I got the same errors a few times while towing, usually when starting out from a stop. Can never duplicate it on demand towing or not (and never happened not towing) so have not had the dealer even look at it yet. From other posts, I am thinking it’s probably an ABS sensor.

Shutting down and restarting clears it every time.

That makes sense, I was on a hill and making the truck work kind of hard. I don’t plan on taking it in either. Thanks for the info!

I know it's not a Ford, but my 5th gen Toyota 4runner would do the exact same thing and it was always an ABS sensor. Usually pulled the fuse or use the OBDII port to reset.

try the hill again and turn off all the nannys. hold down the trac control button until it says advanced trac off or something like that. typically takes like 10 or 15 second. do it 4wd high lock the rear and start with a decent run at it like you had before. i bet it makes it or goes farther. ive found that situations that all the nannys are not used to, sorta flip it out lol. the steep hill loss of traction and repeat attempts likely had the systems scratching heads.

I’ll definitely do it again soon and I’ll keep all the nanny features off. Your right, I didn’t have any issues until I used the off road cruise control and terrain modes. I’ll give credit where it is due, they did do a pretty good job until I got those faults. I am still figuring things out with the truck which I’m sure contributed to it as well.

I think we are all still learning these trucks lol. they did do an awesome job on the off road modes. first 4x4 ive ever driven that didnt need to air down tires to drive in dry sand. *that said airing down may have made it easier. great looking truck you have, i wanted that color but could not find one in stock.

Similar situation the other day, failed going up a long sandy, steep hill twice, then just hauled up going probably too fast the next time, praying there wasn't a drop off/cliff on the other side after making it up.

I am guessing one of the nanny control units or something related just got hot and threw the light. More I play with this truck, I release the nanny are always there so turning off traction control and adv trac off will be necessary at times.
