EDIT: I know how to set the following distance and I HAVE read the manual. That is not what I'm asking. Please don't post just to call me an idiot. Thanks.

My 2021 has 3000 miles now and there are a few things that annoy me about ACC.

1- No stop and go (already read on here there isnt any even though I swear I read literature that it did before buying)

2- when I come down a hill and reach the bottom starting up the other side it drops about 5mph and then goes full throttle to accelerate up the hill to get back to my target speed. This is bad for efficiency and annoying.

3- when a car in front slows down the truck doesn't, it gets really close and then panic brakes, and since it's so close now that cars accelerates away but the truck waits a long time for an appropriate distance to get moving again.

So is there a way to increase reaction time or sensitivity? Someone told me you could through a scan tool but wasn't very specific. I have forscan but haven't dug through yet.

The ACC is not the same as autonomous driving, and generally is not used for stop-and-go driving. It's usually used for highway driving that adjusts to traffic - not taking off from a stop with cars in front of you. The panic braking sounds really off to me. I wonder if something has damaged the sensor or is being blocked be road grime. Although I haven't had my truck super long, I have played with the ACC on (I prefer mine to follow at the closest distance) and I haven't experienced these issues. Hopefully someone can help you out. Good luck!

I agree but I had a 2017 VW Golf R before this and it did have stop and go. It seamlessly came to a full stop behind cars at stop lights and took off when you hit resume. It slowed down at the exact moment other cars did not 3 seconds later like the ranger and it reacted to the change from downhill to uphill immediately. So I'm just disappointed that 4 years newer tech is nowhere near as good.

I know mine works flawlessly on the highway, which was the only expectation I ever had of it. I set it to the max following distance and it has been great.

It might work better once you read the manual and set the distance.

Reading the manual isn't going to change the way it works. I already have and I know how to set the distance. That isn't my question. My question is changing how long it takes to start braking after it senses the car in front is slowing down.

1- I would never use it for stop and go, even if it had that capability.

2- I have not experienced that and have recently been on some fairly steep hills driving across country.

3- The only time I have any type of noticeable braking, is when the vehicle in front of me is braking hard. If I come up on a vehicle going 10 or more mph less than me, it slows down non-abruptly to match their speed.

As others have pointed out, read your manual.

Nevermind. Question retracted. You guys aren't reading and answering my question. You all basically assume I'm an idiot and tell me to read the manual. So forget it. I clearly won't get any help here.

1- The Ranger doesn't offer stop and go on it's ACC. Never has. You misread or somebody mistyped.

2- Use tow/haul in the hilly stuff, especially when using cruise. The shift logic in D is learning disabled and it's starting up the hill in 10th, then banging a bunch of gears down to catch up. In tow/haul it won't be cruising in 10th, unless you're going 70ish or more, and it'll downshift in cruise to maintain speed down the hill. This will set you up to climb the hill much better.

3- Use the up and down, really forward and back, buttons next to cancel/resume. There are 4 or 5 settings for following distance. There is a display on the dash. It's the bars in front of your truck between the lane keeping lines.

Thank you. Yes I'm aware now that I bought the truck it doesn't have stop and go. Not the end of the world but I thought it did.

#2 thank you I'll try that!

#3 I'm not talking about following distance I mean say I'm going 60MPH and so is the car in front. Then the speed limit changes to 50MPH. The car in front lets off the throttle and slows to 50, but my truck gets right up their arse wanting to keep going 60 and then finally realizes they slowed down and brakes hard to get the gap back. Under normal conditions like if I'm going 60 and come up behind someone going 50 it senses them way out and slows down in advance. It's only when I'm actively following someone it tailgates them badly before reacting and slowing me down.

That's not normal.

Is the truck lifted/leveled or had a windshield replaced?

This does not match my experience in my Ranger *at all*. I use my cruise all the time, and it does a very good job of slowing down with traffic in a pretty gentle way. Sounds like your sensors are misaligned. As asked before: has the truck been lifted? Windshield replaced? Grill swapped out? Is there junk all over the radar sensor in the lower portion of the front grill?

If the truck is stock and the sensors are clean, get thee to the dealer forthwith.

Truck is stock. Good to hear that's not normal. I'll go ask my service department thank you.

I hope your service department is better than mine... had a pretty poor experience with them last week. Good luck!
