We have a 2022 Ford Ranger XL which we love, but in the last six months or so it has developed the odd tendency of the AC turning on by itself when we are driving down the road enjoying having the windows open. Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Are your HVAC buttons sticking? Was something spilled on them?

I see from your other thread that you spilled coffee on the dash. I would say that that is your issue. Your buttons are sticking or corrosion has developed in your controls from the liquid being spilled in them.

You will have to clean your FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module) buttons or replace it.

I had a similar experience in a fusion I drove at work. I'd shut the vents off. I'd hit a bump and feel cold air an see it turned back on. It happened a handful of times but always after hitting a bump.

I thought I read in a similar thread that the system automatically comes on to control humidity. In that thread, I believe it was more about using recirculating cabin air. Maybe your climate control is set on recirc and having the windows down in such a humid location, is triggering the a/c.

🤷‍♂️

XL probably doesn't have ACC I know mine doesn't. Mine has done this several times, sometimes not hitting bumps. Some kind of electronic gremlin.

I took it all apart and cleaned it, replaced the receiver module after that incident. Buttons looked good. Besides, the problem was there before that spill.

Scan for DTC codes with Forscan and see if it reports any button malfunctions.
