Well, when we were getting the FSA done on the cars it was very hit or miss if the dealer did the job right and we got back a trouble-free car. A fellow local RS owner got his done and it was never right, he attempted to pick it up several times from the dealer and every time it would start throwing codes and the dash would turn into a Christmas tree before he was a block from the dealer. He ended up returning it to the dealer as a lemon law return. That was an all-too-common problem with the FSA, dealers just didn't seem to be properly trained or equipped to do the job. I had a dealer flat out say they don't have the tools needed and told me to go elsewhere.

Perhaps Ford as decided to not have dealers to head gaskets on the 2.3EB after those problems happened the last time they had a bunch of head gaskets done.
Him being out of warranty I was more suggesting a competent 3rd party shop over a parts cannon dealer.

If I owned a 5G Ranger outright and out of warranty - and had the means - I'd drop the money on a transmission rebuild with upgraded components if/when it failed. Same with the motor... can you imagine not being beholden to a warranty in fear of financial loss?

What specifically happened to your engine ? ( if that was shared with you). “ Popped “ doesn’t really tell us anything.
I've posted it in this thread already - but its gotten long. I'm not actually sure. It was drinking a tank of coolant per 1000 miles. Ford was 3 months out on a repair, so I traded it off. It was still under warranty so the dealer I traded it to got it all fixed up.

just got code P2457 about egr cooler temp threshold, this thread has me quite worried.

so checking my oil, coolant cap and level before I start the truck again today.

been thinking about retiring the truck form daily driver use since its starting to fade downhill now.
