To run with Phil's theory, had you washed your engine bay?
Nope, never have, but if I ever do, I'll be sure to do it when the engine is at the ambient temp and I'll blow out the spark plug area with compressed air, just to be safe

Just curious, ho
So, I'm driving home about 2 weeks ago, and out of nowhere, the truck kinda jerks...didn't slow me down, just felt it. About 15 min later, it does it again. Once I got into town, I accelerate like I normally do, and it starts bucking and stuttering, the CEL flashes on and off a few times, so I let off the gas and coast for 100 feet or so, lightly get back on the gas and it's fine. Tried to give it some more gas and it does the same thing. I took it into the dealer today, sweating bullets thinking it's the tranny, so I set the tune back to stock the day after it happened.... The tech comes and tells me it's just a cracked sparkplug and it was misfiring....WHEW !!!! I was already looking at the price of a new trans--$3K + install. Gonna leave her untuned for a while, just in case.

Side note--I swapped a bad trans out of my 04 Explorer (which were known to go bad around the 60-70K mile mark). With all the computers and stuff, I don't suppose swapping a Ranger trans would be doable without "mating" it with the engines computer ?? Anyone know for sure ??
Just curious, how "hard" do you typically run your truck and which Livernois tune are you running?

I'm wondering if there's some credibility to a colder plug.

IIRC someone asked this question in a thread and Livernois said there was no need for a colder plug. I run mine pretty hard at times (it's seen it's share of triple digits) and haven't had any issues.....Yet.

Are the spark plugs in your truck the original factory installed plugs, or were they changed as a result of the tune?

Mike, how worried were you that they would tell you it was “all the mods”? Man, I’m glad it worked out, but like Phil said - any word on how it cracked?
Holy Moses on a Motorcycle! That is always my fear.

Mr Gallop, did you install the rear window sticker with the Ranger-5G logo on it? Yes? We'll that's what caused your rear differential to seize up and lock the axles. You owe us $5,000 in diagnostic shop fees and it will take another $12,000 to repair the truck and put it on the street.

I never know how reasonable or insane the logic is coming out of the shop at a car dealership.

Factory plugs. No other mods, just the Livernois 91-93 soft shift tune.
