I agree I regularly would skip 2nd in my manual cars when conditions were correct. For me it’s in one specific spot when I go to my parents where it’s a slow road with a grade and it makes the jump to 3rd where i feel like it should be 2nd. I usually just put it in tow mode for this one hill. Other than that one specific stretch of road I love it lolthere's no reason for it to use every gear unless you're heavily loaded. you'll notice it sometimes goes 1-2-4 instead of 1-3-5, depending on how you're accelerating. the jumps are pretty similar to what you'd get sequentially on a transmission with fewer gears, and the intermediate gears are there for specific conditions. (e.g., on the 6R80 the ratios are 4.2,2.3,1.5 for 1-2-3, compared to 4.7,3.0,2.1,1.8,1.5 for 1-2-3-4-5 on the 10R80. 1-3-5 on the 10R80 is very close to 1-2-3 on the 6R80.) it seems stupid to try to force it to use every gear just because they're there. hell, on a manual I'd skip gears myself depending on the situation.
as for 7, it's the 1:1 ratio--8, 9, and 10 are all overdrive. it's not uncommon for the transmission to end up there especially if you're under any load (like a hill) and/or not going really fast.
for myself I consider the 10R80 to be one of the things that puts the ranger head and shoulders above anything else in the class.
