5G vs. 6G - what's gained or lost?

Well for one, a bigger truck, wider, longer (thats what she said), more stable tow, 4x8 lies flat, integrated e brake, more stable work truck.
Unfortunately, the new v6 is only offered in 4x4. I do not want 4x4.

This is what the ranger should have been from its first re release in na. I am more than happy with this truck. Does just about the same as a full size truck. (Compared to an xl lower end truck with only 8400 tow and 1800 cargo)

If it was not for the Raptor I would be still driving my nicely molded 2019 lariat fx4, after replacing the transmission.

The transmission is much much improved from my 2019
Power sliding window
Heated steering wheel
Nicer interior
Once you get used to it the 12" info system is really good. Nav is improved, more functionality.
Raptor model is huge step up from 5g off road and performance and blast to drive.
The fox 2.5 active mode suspension is superlative.
3.0 with FP tune 455hp/520
Front locker RR and 33" ko3 RR

I think 5g is a better looking truck overall
its bigger
Shifter is weird, some times you have to hunt for reverse at awkward moments
No amber drls/hood markers for RR
No cooled seats (either5g or 6g))
Gas milage for RR
BO system lacks clarity, bass and muddy.
Most of the control settings, music, hvac only accessible digitally from 12" display.

Overall I love my 2025 RR especially after upgrading lights, sound deadening and speakers/sub. I have gotten used to the sloppy shifter, but otherwise it is an awesome truck.

Dear god I start looking at Ranger Raptors again. I can only have 1 vehicle now and RR will fill the void from my sold track car and the kids/wife can enjoy it with me. Starting to get into overlanding and off roading more

I want to thank everyone for all the good information supplied. It has really helped to sharpen my focus.

I just turned 73 and told my wife I want to have one more new/newer truck with all the bells and whistles. I'm in good health and still physically active so maybe I'll get more than one, who knows?

Until I see the 2027 order guide, I think I will focus on the 2025 model year with the lowest mileage I can find once I'm ready to pull the trigger. It won't be this year due to some expensive home repairs and landscaping projects, but next year is very likely. If the 2027 proves to have significant content upgrades, it could shift the focus, but we'll see.

It was designed for high speed off roading, but can can do extreme off roading trails. It also is a really good daily driver that self identifies as a sports car. It is a blast to drive.

It's only caveat is 15-18 mpg average. 100 dollar fillups with premium may not work for everyone.

what exactly do you mean by this ?

I added the information because one of the mentioned pro's of the 6G Ranger was the dual injection 2.3 engine, so if the OP went out and bought a 2024 6G it would not have that engine.

The new 2.3 engine for 2025 is different, Ford calls it the MPC architecture.

All I read was for 2027, Ford will change to Google infotainment, and the ability to permanently turn off A.S.S in the setting menu. Possibly the return of Azure Grey as well.

Turning off ASS is a good thing. I read it may be part of the transmission problems from spinning up the converter at takeoff.

I'm going to cross-post this in the 6G forum as well, but thought I'd start here first.

For those who've replaced (or added to) a 5G with a 6G, what did you gain, and what did you lose?

I'm thinking about replacing my 2020 Lariat SuperCab with a 6G, but it's hard to tell just by content descriptions exactly what I'd be gaining or giving up. I know I'd lose a foot of bed length to start, but it looks like that will be workable. There's the difference in transmissions, but mine has shown no problems in its 42K miles.

Other options are less clear. I know I'd opt for the Lariat, so I'd gain things like:

Memory settings, which apparently only apply to the rearview mirrors (kind of limits the value for me)
Heated steering wheel (top of my list for wanting an upgrade)
Adaptive cruise and lane keeping assist (my highway time is much less than it used to be, but there will always be some)
Larger infotainment screen integrated with Sync (I have a Linkswell now but would prefer the OEM solution)
Integrated box step (also high on my list of wants)

What else is there?

On the losses side, there's the bed length, but what else?

- It sounds like the folding mirrors have gone away, at least on some trim levels.
- The leather seats aren't actually leather anymore

If I go for the 6G, is one model year better than another in terms of content? It looks like there are some low-mileage 2024-2025's out there that would save a good chunk of change versus new.

My 2020 is paid for, so I want to understand as much as possible, what value I'd get for taking on a new car payment.

word on the street is that @AzScorpion endorsed products are not compatible with a 6g hence he drives a 5g

well I just put on the livernose 91-93 performance tune since I am no longer towing heavy anymore. I forgot how much it wakes up the truck. Let's see how loud the truck gets when my MBR turn down style catback sounds

I still like the looks of my 2023 better than the 6Gs. As far as it being a bigger truck, the box and front fenders are wider, but it doesn't look like the width of the cab itself changed at all; it has a little bit of an hourglass look to it looking at it from the front or back. The Raptor does look good; the best thing about it is the Auto 4-wheel drive mode. Otherwise, it has less towing capacity and less hauling capacity and is basically more of a racing truck than a normal everyday driver. They should have kept the front bumper the same as the 5Gs, like they did on the Raptor, instead of giving it that Maverick look.
