I haven't had a CEL since that first tank of gas that my Ranger was delivered with. I'm a little over 600 miles now and at 3/4 tank on my second fuel up. I'm starting to think these trucks are finicky with the fuel that goes into them.
That is exactly what one of our fellow Ranger owners, who was a Ford Technician for five years, told me last night. He said he only puts Mobil or Chevron has in his Fords. He said one of the most common problems he saw at the shop were fuel injector related.

Of course a person should always use quality fuel, but I have a hard time believing they are so finicky with fuel that they will throw codes for quite a few people. I'm generally fueling with E10 which is approved on the gas filler and with E10 water in the fuel should not be a concern. So far my CEL is still out so I hope that it was just something wacky right away and the issue goes away.

I am feeling more like you at this point. I keep hearing that these high tech computer components need to run a few thousand miles to learn driver behavior before settling in. I’m hoping that what this is all about. I just wish I had my truck back.

How's your MPG? My CEL was only lit for about 24 hours. But my MPG is at 17.4 with 560 on the odometer. That's pretty lousy
My MPG was in the 16-17s till I hit 700 or so miles and now I'm getting 21s with 900 miles on. I think it's the learning of the transmission and also the break-in of the motor. I'm very happy w/ how it's progressing over the past 5 weeks since I've gotten it.

I live in a town that has a magellan pipeline refined product center... aka a fuel distribution center. MP brings the crude and refined products up from the gulf coast refineries. I normally fill up at shell or kum & go, which sources from this center and is the latest construction tanks in our town. Though other stations also source from the pipeline center, they are older.

My issue has been spread across the initial tank (which our dealer uses Shell as well as they are a block away), as well as a station out of town (conoco) . And continued reproduction at the dealer since they've had it after third tank sourced again from shell in my town. Anyway, all that to say while I don't discount things can be twitchy over fuel qualities, it is not the source of my issues.

I did get word back today that the part magically showed up, but it will be tuesday before they are done. Since I will be out of town until saturday, they are going to do a bit of driving on it to see if they can reproduce it after repairs.

Thanks for the update. I’m hoping yours gets fixed and then mine is on the same path. I have an Undercover Flex bed cover to install, dang it.

Guess what? 522 miles the CEL is back on... Argh!!! I just hope they can figure it out. New vehicles should not have failing injectors or electronics.

I've noticed a slight miss at 1400 rpm on my new Ranger with less than 600 miles. NO CEL and runs great otherwise but can't help but think it could be a mapping issue or like you're hearing, a fuel injector(s).

I'm going to be patient and hope it clears up, if not I'll be looking for a tuner in my area or be hounding the dealer.

Yah, I know, this is the pits. My service technician cleared the CEL, but was not ready to release my truck back to me. He said the low speed hesitation seemed more pronounced than on the other new Rangers he drove. Luckily, I have my son’s car while he is away at college. Otherwise, I be pitching a fit.

I haven't noticed any drivability issues at all, but there's something wrong with the injectors on some of these vehicles fresh from the factory. Idk... It's frustrating.

If he just cleared it and didn't do anything else it'll probably come back on. There is something wrong that has to be fixed.

I'm a single guy and this is my only vehicle. With it being a 2019 with only 500 miles you wouldn't think reliability would be an issue. My dealer is usually good about letting you use a loaner, but it sounds like it's taking days if not weeks to get these problems sorted out.

Well they can't get it in and get me a loaner until next Monday so I'll just have to cruise around with the light on for awhile. I guess I'm lucky my dealership still provides free loaners for vehicles under warranty. Maybe in another week Ford will have an approved solution for the problem instead of a "replace this if that doesn't work then replace that and then..." Anyhow it's just upsetting to have problems so soon.

I'm not back in town yet but I've been tracking what they've done. (And the mileage they put on doing some test driving.)

Monday they replaced the parts for the #4 injector. (Which also caused numerous erroneous alerts in the app about overtemps and such as they disconnected/reconnected/recalibrated them.) After that, they drove it around 26 miles and did not report any further issues.

Wednesday they put a few more miles on the vehicle (around 15) and still no issues.

Today I don't show any more miles put on the vehicle. So most likely they are done testing it. They consider their work completed at this point, and I'm going to be picking it up from them on Saturday.

Here's hoping it doesn't reproduce in my possession.

So to recap, all they've done so far is the injector. They did not do the ECM yet per ford's request, and that would presumably be the next thing they target if it reoccurs.

Good luck all.

Good luck to you too. I started another thread about under the heading Bad Fuel Injector to call attention to this problem in the hopes Ford follows this site. Im waiting on the parts to replace a bad #2 injector. The dealership can’t get the parts so I called Corporate to see if they can hurry along. It sounds like your service technician did good testing after the repair. Fingers crossed.

Just got it back and gave it a go. Seems to be doing fine.

There is a noise it makes when I floor it, sounds like in the cabin it's sucking in air. Don't remember it doing that so I'll probably go up there Monday and test drive another to be sure. (Considering I had the thing for a week before it went back in the shop... I might simply not be remembering it accurately.)

Other oddity... I was told injector #4 twice. Looking at the paperwork, they replaced #2 and resealed #1, #3 and #4. With a note that #2 injector is 3.1 OHMS before replacement.

More 'miscommunication' between the tech and the rep, but I'll double check that as well on Monday.

So now I start the clock to see if it reproduces in a couple hundred miles or not. (Fingers crossed.)
