I've got the arms in and axle back under the truck for what I hope is the last time before doing the final cleanup and paint everything.
The front shaft is definitely lacking enough articulation for the solid axle...

Hi Travis,

Time for a double carden driveshaft at both ends? We had a program called Shorthorn when I was first hired by the company. It was a short wheel base Bronco with a 460 CID Engine. Solved the articulation at the front and rear with double carden joints at each end of both front and rear driveshafts....talk about expensive driveline... Program was killed in 1974 due to the Arab Oil Embargo. Most of the new hires were let go in the layoffs...somehow I was saved.

best,

Thanks for the response Phil. I've often wondered how a shaft with double cardon joints at each end would work. I always assumed it would get a "jump rope" effect under load. I may look in to it for this project as it would allow me to keep my caster angle higher.

Knew a guy that did a similar build. He used these and they worked very nicely. Price is not to shabby ether https://www.ironrockoffroad.com/product/custom-length-double-cardan-driveshaft.html
Iron Rock makes great stuff. I have a local guy that can build any shaft we can dream up. With that being said, Phil was talking about a shaft with double cardon joints on both ends. Typically you'll see like what iron rock has, just a single, double cardon joint.

Hi Travis,

I think you will be okay with 1310 u joints...No need to go to 1330 in my opinion...

Got the truck on the ground today. First time on its own full weight since I bought it. Need to do some more mods on the steering, but it's getting close.
I took today off to get some work done on the truck and it snowed so day, so I made an improvised shelter.

Impressive skills you have there. From what you started with to this, is nothing short of exceptional mechanical abilities. Well done ?

I've been telling the wife it is hers, which allows me to spend more money on it.. you might have to fight her for it.

It's been kinda crappy weather here, so I have mostly been working on the Fairlane inside the shop.
Here's an update to where she currently sits:
Power steering gear box is permanently mounted and the frame is reinforced using trail gears ifs box mounting kit.
