I've been working on this project in my spare time the last several months. Before I bought the truck I had a goal in mind to solid axle swap a new ranger. I bought the truck with 3890 miles on it as a salvage vehicle. The rear frame, bed, and suspension were pretty hammered. Engine, transmission, and everything from the cab forward was in great shape, no airbags were deployed.

I kept the overall frame length about the same, but pushed the rear axle back by using 64" Deaver springs made for desert racing. They were on the rear of my previous sas 2004 ranger and worked amazing on and off road.

I haven't been the best about posting pictures, but I will work on getting more detailed photos as the project progresses.

The overall plan is 3 link front w/panhard, jk steering box from PSC, along with a PSC hydro assist kit, psc power steering pump (still trying to figure out how to mount the pump on the engine), fox coilover, tera44 front axle made for a jk (have from previous ranger sas) 37s (maybe bigger?) Aluminum flat/offroad bed, sliders, bumper with winch, and more.

This is where the project currently sits, all the ifs has been completely removed, 3 link mounts on frame, coilover towers on frame, steering gear box mount in place (waiting for psc box to show) truck sitting on its own weight at the moment.

Interesting, did a SAS, 15 years ago, and have another in the pipeline. Scary sometimes doing these on a brand new truck, but when you think about it the drivetrain is good so just leave it alone and work around it.

What are you going to do about wheel sensor and such? I don't think taking bulbs out of the dash is going to work here.

I haven't thought through the abs problem all of the way. A local performance shop can "shut off" the abs system in the computer, but we're not sure how the truck will respond. My other thought was to split the signal from the rear sensors and tie it in to the front to fool the computer in to thinking it has signals from all 4 wheels. Again, not sure at this point.

Super Duty trucks have solid axle with ABS. Maybe there are some compatible parts.

Very possibly. The jk axle I'm using has abs provisions. The tone ring on the jk has a lower tooth count than the ranger does. Another possibility could be custom tone rings. I'm sure at some point I'll address the issue as the project gets farther along and I'll be sure to report my fix.

It is a little intimidating for sure. The first cut made me nervous, after that it was fun haha.
Here is a picture of my old sas Ranger.

WOW! I was just talking to someone the other day and was asking if he knew if anybody had done a solid front end on one of these yet. I'm excited to see how your truck turns out!
