I will get some photos of the frame on both sides tonight.

Her airbags did not deploy hit squarely on the receiver hitch of the truck. She stated the last time she looked she was traveling 45-50mph and did not hit the brakes before she hit the truck. Said that the sun she did not see anyone stopped.

Given those photos, I highly doubt she was going 40MPH when she hit. There would have been a LOT more damage, especially to her car at 40MPH.

ehh shes fixable. just let them repair it. last foot of the frame not hard to fix. its when its mid ship that it gets real sketchy. ive seen some where the cab and bed where offset 3 inches and we straightened em up. have a good four wheel alignment done and check to see if any suspension or drive line stuff was shifted. nice truck and garage.

Looks like she was hard on the brakes an was in a nose dive when she hit the ranger. I hit someone like this, The only accident I've ever been at fault in. It did far more damage to my van than it did the van I hit since my bumper went under his an his bumper hit the grill radiator support area.

I had someone (in a minivan) rearend my F250 superduty. I had a tow ball in the receiver hitch at the time (so the minivan was impaled on that...it was *dead* after that...dragged it about 100' in order to get it off the tow ball). Body shop said that having the tow ball installed is what saved me from having more damange (basically needed a new bumper and receiver hitch).

First and most important is both occupants walked away unharmed. That’s HUGE‼ Next the Ranger engineering staff needs a round of applause. By design it protected occupants regardless of visible damage. That air bags didn’t deploy is actually a good thing in this case. It does look to be repairable but hard to know until bed is pulled and measurements are taken. Probably just need some massaging to get it back to spec and have damaged parts replaced. All in all the Ranger is a pretty safe truck!

Did I see the bat signal shining in the sky? (just a huge body hammer really)

Yes boxed steel Ranger frames can be fairly easily straightened by any reputable shop with a good frame straightening machine.

Glad everyone is ok first and foremost. Looking at pictures of gap between bed and cab, it appears the frame is bent somewhere near the back of the cab or front of bed. Gap a bit wider at top than the bottom. If they fix it, I'd push for a replacement frame.

Wife was rear ended Thursday night car that hit her was going 45-50mph. The frame of the truck is bent where the receiver hitch mounts.

Any familiar with a total for frame bent? Bent on both sides about half an inch.

Thoughts?
First of all, I hope everyone is ok. Secondly, with the frame machines and equipment available, a quality body shop can tell you if the frame is repairable. Several years ago Ford started making frames in two basic pieces, so either the front or rear section can be replaced. They can also do a frame swap by picking up a frame at a salvage yard. If that is what they do, insurance companies have guidelines about where a replacement frame can come from, they won't allow parts from flood damaged vehicles to be used for repairs for example. A quality shop can repair a frame to within tighter tolerances than the factory actually has. And remember that a frame is nothing like a beer can. And check to see what trucks like yours with the same options are going for within about 100-200 miles of where you live, and don't settle for less with the insurance company. Good luck, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask. I worked in body shops for many years as an advisor writing estimates and overseeing repairs.

Figured I would update everyone.

Dropped off at Ford body shop for repairs.
When they looked at it they also stated it was a higher speed impact over 30 mph and stopped to ask if everyone was OK.

Frame bent on both sides. - replace
Bed - replace
Tailgate - replace
Bumper and receiver hitch - replace
Right rear taillight - replace

All Ford parts.

Going to take at least a month so that sucks. Wife works from home and doesn't drive much but still is a pain. We have rental car coverage but not sure we will use it. We have a couple spare vehicles.
