2019 Ranger MPGs

Started to read some real world MPG reviews on the Ranger and I'm quite disappointed. One of the main driving features for me getting a Ranger instead of a Tacoma was the engine and MPG. Guess I'll see for myself when I get the truck next week. Class leading MPG is false advertisement.

If you are looking at competitors, make sure you read the reviews to see they are getting the expected mileage as well.

I'm getting around 19mpg. But that is highway for 30 miles and backroads for 35 miles each day. As much as I know I shouldn't be, I hit the go-fast pedal every so often. I consider 19 to be right on the money for how I drive. I'm not surprised or disappointed in the slightest.

Plus, we are still using winter blend gas which does not get as good mileage as the summer blend.

For me, even if my Ranger doesn't do any better than the Tacoma, the power is absolutely worth it. That engine/trans in the Tacoma is a giant turd!!!!

So far with 2.5” RC level and 33” tires it’s atrocious! Last 2 tanks got only about 250 miles (400km) of range... but then again off-road rigs aren’t built for gas milage! Haha

Also need to consider that cold weather remote starts are mpg killers. I’m expecting to gain 50-60 miles of range this summer.

That's why no matter how cool looking or functional a level kit and larger tires are I wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot pole. They just pull down the MPG too much.

-3300 miles
-Auto stop/start enable but I will cheat it if 1st at a light
-70/30 City/Highway
- Normal driving, easy on take off's 70-75 mph on highway use CC often
-87 octane all but 2 tanks of 93 typically fill up at 1/2 tank
-Typically have adult passenger and tools/materials totaling additional 400 lbs
-Average tank of gas yields 22.3 MPG hand calculation
-93 octane raised to 24.2 between those 2 tanks
Some things I've noticed is that morning warm ups and idling in general gulps fuel. AC does as well, I ran it 1 day for about 15 miles on the highway and it dropped me to 18 MPG on trip meter. Hauling loads doesn't seem to hurt mileage as much as I anticipated, though I haven't hooked a trailer to it yet. It is a turbo and if you give it throttle IT WILL EAT, which can be really hard not to do. But if you generally keep it under 2k RPM it does great

I'm at ~3900 miles or so now, my last tank was hand calculated to 22.5mpg. It's sitting on a 3 tank average of 21.7 right now, and keeps going up no matter how I drive it. I have a long flat drive to work (54 miles each way) lots of highway, but that highway is usually bumper to bumper and sporadic stop and go. It's already getting better mileage than my Focus ST did, and it's nearly as fun to drive.

I'm in SE Michigan, only live 3 miles from work... I drive mostly city, but some highway once or twice a week and i'm averaging 20.2 mpg.
my 2015 F150 i just sold was only getting avg of 15.8 so big improvement for me.

. Towing range with this thing is going to suck big time.

Try towing a 4000lb box trailer on E85 in the Carolina mountains with a 20 gallon tank. The gas gauge moved faster than the tach. I think I got about 3 mpg.

Glad it was only $0.89 a gallon.

I am about 22 mpg, all city driving on short trips. When I have infrequently been on the freeway I have gotten roughly 28 mpg.

Only 600 miles so far though!

2019 Ranger XL 4x4 with FX4 package and Falken Wildpeak ATM 265/70-17 tires. 600 miles on truck so far.

Recent 200-mile trip using cruise control (figures are from dashboard "avg mpg" display - I will do more accurate testing over time) - 23 mpg unloaded on 65 mph highway; then 17 mpg carrying ~1,000 lb load on 65 mph gently rolling highway, which dropped to 15.5 mpg on return trip with 15 mph headwind.

I engaged the towing mode feature and saw a further 1 mpg drop due to it using lower gears and higher revs (9th gear was highest used, typically cruised at 65 mph using 8th). Ecoboost engine seems to keep up the torque just fine, but when heavily loaded the truck sucks down the gas especially when using towing mode. I know physics is at play here with a heavy load, but I wonder if the Ecoboost turbo is also working overtime when in towing mode.
