I bumped my tire pressure up to 40 cold (door says 38) seem to be getting about 1 mpg more over a few tanks of the usual driving I do. Ride quality is pretty much the same. All goes to hell though in sport mode on a twisty road

NOTE: I'm just hitting 4k on the odo, and do mostly city driving since i live 3 miles from work.
I'm averaging 20.2 (when i stay out of sport mode lol)
taking a big 1000 mile road trip this week. It will be the first real long highway trip, so i'm curious as to the highway MPG's

Frivolous. Too many people have documented achieving published numbers. A 3" lift and 33" tires and you're still getting 16 mpg? Sounds about right. Did you do a before and after? I had a 2008 F-150 that was getting hand calculated 17 mpg with a very light foot. I put a 1.75" front spacer kit and went from 32" to 33" tires and got 13.5 mpg on the same loop, same light foot.

My 150 is a 2004 and yep it's about the same.

2400 miles now and getting right about an average of 20-21mpg overall. 23-24 hwy, 18-20 city.

Based on my experience, it seems that 89 is the best value. Around here, 89 generally costs 30 cents more than 87 and 93 costs 40 cents more than 89.

87: 2.43 x 18 = 43.74 Dollars @ 20.5 MPG
89: 2.73 x 18 = 49.14 Dollars @ 23.5 MPG
93: 3.13 x 18 = 56.34 Dollars @ 26 MPG

87: 20.5 x 18 = 369 MPT
89: 23.5 x 18 = 414 MPT
93: 26 x 18 = 468 MPT

87: 369/43.74 = 8.44 MPD
89: 414/49.14 = 8.61 MPD
93: 468/56.34 = 8.31 MPD

Even if 93 were 30 cents more than 89, it looks like 89 would still edge it out.
93: 3.03 x 18 = 54.54 Dollars @ 26 MPG
93: 468/54.54 = 8.58 MPD

Bear in mind, these MPG numbers are rough estimates based off of my recollection and are not scientific.

It has been my experience that for my driving style, the octane has very little effect on mpg. It DOES have a BIG effect on maximum power. But in normal driving without the trailer, I seldom run above 1800 rpm, so low boost. I can tell the increased power when towing. Without, I use "regular" but towing I use 89 or higher.

So, I know it's still a little early in the tank, but this is what I'm getting on my latest run. It's really the first time I've done some long distance casual (not even really that eco) driving while the truck is in a clean state (no pulling a trailer or having kayaks on the roof or any of that). Mostly highway (60mph) with some city (35mph & multiple stop lights) mixed in. I know people will say it's a fluke, or that I haven't driven enough on this tank yet. But the thing is everytime I have to accelerate from a light or whatever and the mileage goes down, the minute I get back into cruise it climbs right back up!

So... did I win?!?!

Dear Friends: So far--one week in--I am getting 19+ on regular gasoline and mostly city driving, with no towing or hauling. (I have not deliberately used the AUTO STOP START, but several times I forgot to turn the damn thing off when starting....) I expect that next week, when school starts, I will be putting in many more miles on the freeway, which should bring my average over 20, provided that I can keep my lead foot under control. After getting 17.8 MPG over five years and 70,000 miles with a 2014 Explorer Limited, I had said to myself that I would be happy if the Ranger could run into the twenties, and we are almost there!

Just did my first tank since I took ownership, and I got 21.5, it's about 50/50 for my trips on the tank. Gauge said 23.1, so I will tweek the setting to get it closer to my real mpg. I'm happy with that so far.

Looking back at my Fuelly App, my first tank on my '09 Ranger XL 2.3l 5-speed 2wd, I got 24.7 mpg, paid $1.89 a gallon April '09

Ambient temp seems to make a pretty big difference. After constant 90s and low 100s for months we got a break in the weather a couple of days ago with highs in the low 80s.

My typical commute has the mpg drop about 2 to 4 tenths the first 10 minutes and then gradually go back up the next 20 minutes getting back to where it started or if lucky increase 1 tenth or so. The last 2 days of cooler weather the mpg has increased by a full mpg.

Looking forward to seeing how it goes this fall.

Did a 700 miles round trip to Omaha NE, and I had 23.5 mpg with interstate driving at 73mph most ways and A/C on. Computer said 24.9, will tune that today to get that closer.

I'm at 23.5 with 1500 miles behind me. Granted I'm addicted to the instant gratification of the MPG readings, and have really adjusted my driving style since my 13 F150 that had one. Also, I'm a night shifter, and like to take midnight drives on the highway, which is picture perfect driving conditions for MPGs.

Longer trips are definitely better, mine is averaging 24-25 ish, I do very few short drives... I have 15,200 miles. My dads is 23.5ish he's at 2500 miles, but only drives short distances.

Mine is an XLT FX4 his is a Lariat 4x4.

We should break up milage reports according to specs and mods:

1. low trim/weight 2 wheel drive only, no mods
2. 2 wheel drive only with tire mods
3. 4x4 stock tires, no suspension mods with airdam
4. 4x4/FX4 large tires, suspension lift/level without airdam
5. FX4 large tires, suspension lift/level without airdam, additional load such as covers/racks/accessories

My FX4 while stock was providing roughly 20 city/23 hwy (with rake). At stage 5 leveled with additional 150-200lbs of accessories on/in bed, extra drag from front tire exposure and added pod lights, it's dropped to 18-19 city/20-22 hwy. I'm sure stage 1 is going to run in the high 20s to low 30s all day long. But useless to compare that to a stage 5...
