I know you found a harness issue so this might be a moot point. I had the same issue at 900 miles on my Ranger (it now has 1500 miles) Started it, drove it, no issues, the next morning wham, lights flashing all over the place, no audio on the radio but the main difference was when I started it the battery seemed low because it was a slow crank. Eventually, it started and the engine stop Icon was on all the time and the engine never stopped at a stoplight. I took it to the dealer and the battery had gone bad (brand new Ranger). They told me when the battery starts going bad all sorts of strange things happen. Such as what I mentioned. They also told me that the "engine stop icon" will remain on until the battery is charged at least 80%. Just as an FYI... my old 2015 Chevy Colorado did a similar display of lights flashing, etc... when its battery went bad. Just my 2 cents.

I don’t think that the auto start stop system operates until the truck has warmed up.
Mine starts operating almost immediately (temp gauge hasn't even started climbing)

2004 was a different era for vehicles, quality etc. It is nearly 20yrs ago. Lots changed since.
.... but not like a 20yr old truck, back when they actually built them to last. now they build them for the highest profit margin, and factor in failures.
you cant fairly compare the two trucks
Sure you can compare them fairly.

Factor in the cost of living today vs 20 years ago. Then using that factor, if the trucks today are less money than they were 20 years ago, your case would hold water. That's simply not the case.

The selling dealer should take care of you regardless if they are a Ford store or not. Have you contacted them?
Can’t wait to see the runaround the Audi dealer will give you. I would only involve them if Ford refuses to warranty it.

Sure if the sensor is part of that it all goes, thats not a problem.
The premise was splicing is not the long term solution if you want no more issues. A splice won't guarantee that.
So chance a harness, change an assembly, its the same result and right decision.
The part that is spliced/damaged is part of the sensor. The wire is about 2-3 ft in length and plugs into the main harness.

Adam, I don’t know for sure about the Ranger (it’s still too new to me) but my hybrid Acura wouldn’t shut off, at least in the winter, until it had warmed up. It makes sense to me that there might be some minimum coolant temperature associated with start/stop operation but maybe not.

Dealer said what I found is the issue. They don’t have the part. Ordered it, and said it should be here next week. Said no on the warranty covering it.

The same thing happened to my 2021. Turned out the Rt rear speed sensor was installed with the protective cover still on the sensor!?! The dealer didn't figure it out until I drove it straight to them after it happened BEFORE shutting down and restarting the truck. Those particular sensors do not store data in the system like other others. If you stop and start the truck to get the fault clear you reset the sensor codes and the dealer will have nothing to go on. so the fault has to be active for them to figure it out. Happened to me at all sorts of random times. Actually surprised it wasn't happening more frequently. Hope this helps.

Started it this morning. Everything good. Put in reverse, backed out of garage. Everything fine. Shifted to drive, and all kinds of lights started coming on. Terrain management failure, anti-lock brake light, traction control light, etc. looked like a Christmas tree flashing on the dash. I turned off ignition, restarted. No lights. Drive to work, about 17 miles. No issues. Got to work, and parked, but left running. Dumped some trash, then backed up to turn around, all lights came in again. So, I guess I am about to call the dealer and make an appointment. This is strike one.
