After 3.5 years I made my first bone head move. I was pulling a trailer and saw my friend who owns the lot beside us came up for the weekend. Stopped and backed up to pull into his driveway, and forgot I had the trailer on. Looked in the rearview and thought, hey, where's the trailer, just as I heard the thud. It had swung full around and bumped into the side of the rear panel.

Not as bad as it could be I guess. My trailer has plastic inserts in the side rails. It pushed in the natural crease in the panel, and poked a little hole in that plastic cover around the wheel well.

Pretty sure a paintless guy can push out the crease. What is that wheel flair part called, and the part # if anyone knows it? I may just forget about replacing that piece, but we'll see how I feel in a few days.

Wheel Opening Molding, I see a couple different part numbers for it, suggest dealer parts counter for VIN specific part number.
The Parts Database shows:
Left - Paint to Match
Right - Black

No option for the Left in (black) unless the paint to match comes in black (?)

You can check the on-line parts databases - View Pick-Up Box Diagrams (Exterior Trim)
This is where that part is located as the fender diagrams are for the front fenders only.

That’s a pretty good run with out a bone head incident happening ?. Get that crease fixed up… and maybe it’s time for some fender flares (I didn’t know they weren’t called something else but I suppose if they’re flush it wouldn’t be a flare ?.)… I recommend the tremor style ones ? not too much not too small.

I guess technically it's the second bone head move. The first was carefully opening the door at a gas pump, getting out, and then leaving the door open and it swung open and bounced off the protective metal bar beside the pump. Put a little dent in the door that a paintless guy fixed.

So, I'll schedule a visit to my friend at dentmasters. I think it should be an easy (if not cheap) fix.

I thought about flairs. I may look at them if I can't find the correct wheel opening molding. I may just let it go. But, the crease in the metal has to get fixed, I can't leave that there to mock me.

Oof I thought those bars where there to hold the door to keep it from opening to far ?… if that’s a bone head move I do that atleast once a month..
my recommendation of the tremor flares is a honest one. Most go way up the fender and have this “look at me” feel if you don’t have big big tires and fancy wheels to catch some of the spotlight..
And the wheel opening molding (flush) makes the truck look slim (I’m sure there’s a better way to describe that (but I haven’t had any coffee yet.)

also Levitonford seems to have them in stock and they come in magnetic gray painted just under $350

edit: Levittown Ford ? not Levitonford ?

Cool, I reached out to Benny at Levittown to confirm. Magnetic gray may be the color of the molding on my platinum white lariat, not sure. It's not black.

I don't have big tires and just the upgrade 18" wheels that came on it new. I could see getting a tad more flair on it, but not looking for a bro dozer ;)

Get ahold of the guy at Levitown Ford out in said town in NY. He's the guy when it comes to Ranger sourcing parts.

Just realized the tremor flairs may not be compatible with my weathertech mud flaps? Guess I'll find out if I go that route.

What mud flaps are you guys using?

I personally don’t use mud flaps (i probably should, also may need too once I go for a +3” lift to fit 33” tire.) Rok Blokz apparently have some that fasten to the oem mounting points… likely the ones I’ll be going with since I have the tremor pkg… can’t recall if some trimming of the flap is required to make them blend better and not look so squared off…
Anyway
…Rok Blokz…
If you search RokBlokz mud flaps in the search the thread here on 5g should pop up with a few folks posting pics.. pretty sure there is a white tremor with them on.. so it should give you a pretty good idea of what yours will finally look like.

Here's a pic with the RokBlokz and while I hate mud flaps I might be needing to instal them now that I've moved out here. They do just instal without any trimming and there's a Ranger instal video on their website.

In AZ we were lucky if we got 9" of rain a year where out here we can get that in a week. lol I do have several chips in the lower rockers from these General Grabber tires which pick up everything in their path! Never had that problem with my Nitto Ridge Grapplers or Toyo AT3's on my '19 and that still looked perfect after 4 years.

Agree with you on the Grabbers collecting rocks and spitting them out - they sure live up to their name. :( I’ve been running without my fender flares (rubber piping issues) and my side steps (need rust removal) and the rockers are missing them dearly. I thought there was a bit of white road paint splatter on them but it turned out to be tiny stone chips in the paint.

I have new piping and can work on the side steps here. I really need to make a trip home to pick them up but this hammock is too damn comfortable.?

I did that on my Flex; opened the door right in to the big yellow stanchion. As I took my foot off the brake it rolled back slightly and put a nice scrape in the door. Now I remember to pull up far enough past to clear it.

Yes, before my trip to Canada I decided to put on some of the Ford factory mud flaps. I decided when I returned home take them off and plug one drilled hole.
I decided what the heck, leave them on. I'm old enough that I can get by with it.
My wife confirmed it, when she borrowed the truck and front and back wheel well had mud inside, but sides were clean.

JB Weld is almost that color, should fill the divit nicely and if you use a razor blade to level it (I'd also use one to for "rough sanding" with maybe some 800 sandpaper), it should be only noticeable to you.
