First off, I need to thank this message board for providing the info that allowed me to try and get this issue fixed before it costs me $$$.

Using this site and the latest TSB 25-2134 I took my 2021 Lariat with 43K into the dealership back in July. I wanted Ford to address the problems these trans were having BEFORE my 5yr/60 expires next year. They told me they had such a backlog it would take weeks to get my truck in. Fast forward to August and they finally called to say they had a rental covered under warranty for me to use and to drop the truck off. So I did and confirmed all work would be done under warranty at no cost to me.

The truck sat for a month before their trans tech started to work on it. After 1 month and 10 days of waiting I got my truck back. I asked for a copy of the work they did for my records so that if anything went wrong with the repair I had documentation. I have read here and online that the main issue with the 10R80 has been the CDF drum and Ford has a new one to replace the old. This is mentioned in the TSB along with other things. So here is my question.

Looking at the print out of what was done I don't see the part # for the CDF mentioned for being replaced. I see a lot of other parts listed. Some are mentioned in the TSB and some are not. The second image shows they did a CDF pressure test which has been noted as a way to see CDF failures with the original 10R80. And it passed after the work done.

So the question is, based on the invoice did they repair my trucks trans to eliminate the issue these 10R80s have been having? Thanks for any info y'all can give

Thats not as many parts involved as when they did my rebuild.
Im sure you'll get intelligent answers soon, as some of these folks are VERY well-versed in this field.
Good luck!

Were you experiencing shifting problems in the first place? Or did you just want to ‘fix’ the problem before it started?

both. I had the harsh shifting around 3rd gear especially when it was cold and other things people have mentioned. When i saw the 10R80 issues here and how people were paying thousands once out of warranty I wanted to get it looked at while still covered by my 5/60

Are all Rangers built before 8/2022 going to have eventually have problems covered by the TSB? I've got a 2022 I purchased 2/2022 with only 17,700 miles on it.

So I have a 2019 Lariat. 47,000 miles. Really crappy shifting. Already had the dealer look at it and they said the transmission isn’t giving any codes they can’t really do anything. I even drove around with the transmission tech and tried to show them the harsh shifting. Of course it wasn't acting that rough that day. Transmission tech at the dealer said “yeah we get a lot of complaints about the 10r80 transmission”. If I want to get this repaired/replaced before warranty is up how do I go about it? Just keep fighting it at the dealership? There’s no way I want to wait any longer until I’m out of this warranty then be stuck with full repair cost…

Have them perform the pressure test listed in TSB 25-2134.

I had dropped my truck off multiple times for funky shifting and always got a No Problem Found.

The last time, I asked them specifically to perform the test in the TSB and mine failed.

It's getting the transmission rebuilt now.

Is this every page of the repair order? It looks like it may be missing details. Don’t see the CDF drum on it but also don’t see any transmission fluid. But it also states it passed the CDF test. They did replace the valve body, outer shell ( trash can ) , torque converter and filter. But not seeing any friction discs or plates. A bit confusing for sure.

They also replaced the shifter cable and the turbocharger

I noted that the pages are uploaded backwards - Pg 1 is actually pg 2

So, they replaced the Outer Shell, T-Convertor, Shift Cable, Valve Body and Turbo
Trans Fluid & Filter & Eng Oil & Filter

Pg 1 (Final) CDF Leak Test - PASS

For Ref: The CDF Cylinder (Drum) as pointed out is not listed as being replaced. IDK why they would skip that part if it is already torn down.
Plus, the repair procedures of the TSB call for both to be replaced with NEW

The only thing I can think of is the Tech Determined the issue to be with the T-Convertor and Valve Body and found wear on the (Container Cylinder) it really all boils down to - what were the before repair (Test Results) as they are now using a (Automated Test via FDRS) and the adaptive tooling to walk them through the test procedure.

Have seen others post that their CDF drum wasn’t replaced while the transmission was tore down. Even though they replaced a bunch of other stuff under warranty . Doesn’t make sense seeing that it’s such a potential problem. I think owners need be emphatic and proactive about replacing the CDF drum and offering to pay for the part when transmission is down for warranty repair.

When I had my transmission rebuilt last summer, it listed the CDF drum along with clutch plates and discs. I wonder why they don't show on his invoice.

I have the parts list for mine they did under the TSB in this thread along with more info: They did not replace the CDF drum but replaced all the valves (as they were sticking due to debris) and the trash can/basket. I believe the pics of the work order are on the third page.

Just for a ref, here is a dumbed down video of the CDF Drum compare (old vs new)

NOTE: The Part Number Listed in the video is NOT for the Ranger it's for other variants of the 10R80
The Ranger is the JR3Z vs
