“Dimming” Notification/Alert on my Instrument Cluster Display

This morning, while backing the truck out of the garage, I received an alert/notification on my instrument cluster that I have never seen before. It appeared in the same place the Pre-Collision Assist notice appears.

It didn’t have an audible warning and I only saw the graphic for a split second. The word “Dimming” appeared above a vertical stack of horizontal lines - kind of like a bar graph.

Of course, as quickly as it seemed to appear, it vanished.

It kind of looked like this…

Did you perhaps nudge the knob for the instrument panel lighting with your knee by accident?

Solved…sort of. At least I can replicate it.

I thought maybe that same message shows up as you manually dim or brighten the display so I tested it just now.

Yep.

Which leads me to believe that, since it was random and my battery is now six years old……..

In the beginning on my truck, I would move the headlamp knob from auto to off. The dimming knob is a lot harder feat. May be a weak battery issue.

It was morning and I was exhausted. It was a late night - at the moment, my garage doubles as a work area and I’m working on a ”special project” for Mrs. DukeCanBuildit. The Ranger is in the driveway for most of the day and returns to the garage at night.

There are power tools all over the garage, which doesn’t leave much room to maneuver. It was “back in, pull out”, “back in, pull out”, “back in, for at least half the night.

Happy life and all that.

Ehhh, that might be good enough, but I'll have to meet the Mrs. to confirm...

I want to say - its most likely a brief glitch, from the transition from dark garage to lighted outdoors - normally it should not trigger the (Dimming Menu) during this transition.
If I recall correctly - it will pop up during the BCM Self-Test, but other than that you do not see it unless you are adjusting the level with the switch

It was definitely strange to see but with all the odd reported glitches for the Ranger, not that surprising. I’ll watch for it again today. Hopefully, I don’t back over the letter carrier.
