PRE COLLISION ASSIST

It looks like that was the issue, I pushed the button once it said on then again off and once again the screen said on. Thanks Bret , so the menu and the button on the turn signal work together. No matter how old we are we learn something everyday.

If I follow to close to a vehicle nothing happens. I've also not formally tested pre collision.

Lane departure: requires 42 mph before it comes on in my truck. Checked that today.

Gosh, I don't know I thought everything was on the screen to turn on and turn off,
will check and see, get back with you.

Once you push the button on the end of the blinker stack you'll see a picture of a truck with two green dotted lines appear on the left gauge screen. The lane assist stays on until you shut it off unlike the auto stop start button which defaults to on every time you start your truck. It takes a while to remember all this stuff and how it operates especially when you've never had all this technology stuff before.

The pre-collision assist worked for me yesterday. I have an XLT. I was in traffic in the city. Zoning out a bit when a car in front of me stopped suddenly as a car in front of them did the same to turn into a parking lot. A large bright colored warning that took up most of my instrument display screen popped up. I recall a loud audible signal went off. I hit the brakes. It all happened so fast I don't recall if the system automatically hit the brakes for me as well. The warning display disappeared just as fast too so I didn't recall what it looked like.

My point I guess is when the pre-collision system engages you'll know it. It's a bigger, louder, brighter warning than the little proximity beep you get when slowly pulling into the garage, a parking spot, etc. As others have mentioned the collision system likely takes into account speed, proximity and other factors to know a situation is "real". For what it's worth I recall being fairly close (maybe 50') to the car in front of me and rolling about 20 mph before the system kicked in.

I don't know about the brake assist but when I get close to a sign, building , car, or anything the buzzers goes off when pulling into a parking space or backing out, also if a pedestrian walks past me in clear view it buzzes too; I have settings on normal. Now the lane assist doesn't do anything I have tried it out and zilch,nata no buzzing, wheel shake, or anything, I wonder if settings on strict mode if it would work. Only way to find out is to change the settings.

That is actually part of the blinds spot system (bliss) I believe that is a different system from Collision assist.

I believe there are 3 different systems.

Mine went off... my center info readout [lit up and it helped me brake faster.

It's rare enough and useful enough for me.

May I ask if your XLT has the technology pkg option?

To the best of my knowledge it does not have a Technology Package - at least not beyond what I think is standard on the XLT. In addition to the collision assist I have the tail light blind spot sensors and various front and rear proximity sensors. I do not have adaptive cruise control - only standard cruise. No lane departure either.

The Technology pkg. option includes navigation and adaptive cruise control.

Anytime I see video of places like that (usually Top Gear and now the Grand Tour) where there are either no real driving laws of if there are nobody cares about them, I'm convinced I would never be able to handle it. Of course I'm very much all about order and organization (partly OCD), so that doesn't help with chaos. Either way, I don't think I'd be able to survive it.

I was in Panama and it's the same way there! It's a cluster f#@* everywhere and you just have to be aggressive and deal with it. They will cut you off and back right out into traffic without any concern who's around. The honking horns start before sunrise and go on all day well past rush hour. You have to wear earplugs at night if you're a light sleeper as it never ends.

I honestly could not stand it there and cut my trip short and flew back to FL and spent the rest of our vacation there. I have patience to a degree but I have no idea how anyone could deal with that everyday! I always read about people retiring to other countries like Panama and Costa Rica and while there are some beautiful areas there I could never deal with their day to day life.

Not a lawyer or an insurance sales rep, but turning it off my have some legal consequence if you are involved in an accident. I have mine set at the least sensitive setting..

The collision works off of a radar system mounted behind the lower grill,drivers side. You can't see anything but a small wire bundle from the outside. Bliss uses sonar,and when it activates,you'll see on the screen which sensors are going off,and on what side. pretty trick stuff for this old geezer.Lane departure is a pain in the ass,no matter of age
