With almost 4k miles on my Ranger, My pre collision assist came on for the very first time today!

I was starting to wonder if it works or not at times! LOL .

Today, as I was driving, I was going to change lane as the car ahead of me was going slower. As I ready to make the the change to the left lane, I was looking in my driver side mirror to make sure there was not one in my blind spot, an all the sudden the red light on the dash board (XL) started flashing and a tone, I quickly turned to the car ahead of me, and they decided to put the breaks on a bit sooner in front of me as I was checking my blind spots.

You can adjust the sensitivity. I've tried all 3 setting but settled on high because of the way people drive here in AZ,seems like mine goes off almost every week. I'm glad it works and you'd think I'd be use to it by now but it still scares the crap out of me every time.lol

It was set on Normal for the first few weeks, so I bumped it up to high and been there since. I honestly wasn't scared LOL . but then I don't get scared easy.

I live in ILL and didn't know this. I don't drive around with a ball/hitch in the receiver, but this custom hitch cover...which i'm terrified if someone were to fall onto it and immediately go thru their skull like butter. It has just recently absorbed an anxious Super Duty driver who went on green before anyone before him...

I didnt know that some higher priced rangers dont have the collision alert lights on the dash which is better than lights down lower. It seems that Ford created at least three different gauge and dash arrangements and the lower priced one is the best. IMHOP

Mine works pretty nicely.

It doesn’t work if you are going below about 15MPH.

1) I was trying to pass a bicyclist and it went off as I got close.

2) I was txting on a two lane winding road and drifted slightly towards distant incoming traffic and it warned me even though a collision wasn’t close to imminent yet. I liked that it did this.

3) On a narrow road with tree branches almost on the lane it went off a few times.
Driving and texting? For real???

19 Lariat Fx4 supercrew - put a Christmas wreath on the grill and started getting the message that the forward collision sensor was blocked, which also killed cruise control. Decided to live with it until Christmas. Added a 20" LED lightbar in the opening in the front bumper. Removed the wreath. Message still shows. Anyone know where this sensor is? I use the truck for Search and Rescue, so this lightbar and the one on top of the cab are staying, I'd rather relocate the sensor (presuming that it truly is blocked, and not a lemon). Has anyone else had this happen?

Is there anyway do disable or bypass the pre collision assist entirely? It’s not really a feature I had any interest in and it tends to go off when it’s raining or snowing with nothing in front of me. It’s annoying and it’s just more things to break.

I guess I'm interested in the fact that rain or snow is setting it off. I've driven through a lot of rain and a lot of snow, sometimes to the point where I can't see where I'm going, and the system has done nothing. It has pinged me (not engage braking though) when it's supposed to, so I know it works. But never rain or snow, or any weather for that matter. Not saying it isn't happening to you, just an interesting circumstance.

As for turning it off, I'm not sure if there's an off option in the menu where you can change the intensity. I only went in there once to change mine to "high" many months ago, so I don't remember.

Yep I would like to know too...
One night I had to run out and was in a hurry and some snow had melted and some ice had formed over the sensor and it sounded like a smoke detector going off and was so loud. Here I am in the dark on the side of the road trying to find out what is causing it.

There should be some way to over ride it.

It has done it once when I would say it should have. I was going down the interstate and traffic came to a halt abruptly. The alarm came on but I had my foot on the brake before it could engage the AEB system. This morning on the way to work it was raining. More like a mist really, and as I was approaching a turn, my alarm rings and there is a blinking light in my face. There were no vehicles on the road. It scared the sh** out of me at 6 AM. It has done that same thing before at least once. As far as ice goes, it just tells me the sensor is obstructed and sends me all Kinds of messages telling me so. Not as annoying but still, I would just as soon get rid of that system all together. I know you can turn the AEB off through the menu but I would like to get rid of the whole shabang

I just looked at mine, and yes you can turn it off. I haven't had any issues with mine yet. But then, we haven't had much snow here yet.

Go into your steering menu, "Diver Assist" and Pre-collision and you can turn off the breaking and something else. (going by memory. )

Getting rid of it completely would be quite the undertaking, with how integrated it is into other systems. If it's off, then it's off completely I think. So you'll likely never encounter it again. Seems a heck of a lot easier than ripping out cameras and wires and reprogramming the whole truck.
