Well I don't just toss the word around. Officially the start/stop tech is not cheating. I will give you that. And I also know they are not doing anything they are going to get dragged into court and fined for. Technically however it is just engineers making use of loopholes in the rules to "effectively" cheat. And the percentage of the people who use the "feature" is heavily affected by the fact that these engineers purposely made the on off switch to default to on with an engine restart to affect the percentage of people who use it. I hate the feature but yet I use it because I forget to hit the switch each time I get in my truck. The takeaway from this is to watch where you apply the word Cheat. Ford and other mfgs who adopted Start/Stop are NOT cheating.
Might as well get angry at almost all the auto manufacturing engineers from the automotive companies...Ford is not the only one doing this...Your anger is misdirected...it is the EPA that is to blame for this and this ridiculous Corporate Average Fuel Economy laws.Well I don't just toss the word around. Call it whatever you want, designing that switch to default to on is evil and arrogant, and it reflects badly of Ford Engineering just to get some slightly better numbers.
I still didn't get around to installing my autostopeliminator, and every time my truck shuts down at a light and chugs back life when I take my foot off the brake, I cuss at a Ford engineer for cheating and being an arrogant ass. I'm getting angry just typing this message, so I'm going to step out of this discussion. Need to get that damn thing installed soon.
Its not Ford its CAFE ratings!! They cant set it up to permanently disable ASS cause then it wouldnt meet the CAFE standard.Oh I assure you I hate the EPA too. And for that matter Euro4 is turning all my new motorcycles into poor performing gutless turds. And Euro5 is only going to make things worse. Since they all design for a world market, the US gets the most restrictive 2 wheeled emissions and noise laws ever.
I think the question is, what would Ford had to have done to give us the option to turn off the auto stop. Bigger catalytic converters to meet emissions? Because I'm sure that most of us would not have minded if our gas mileage number was one digit lower. I think Ford and other makers are greatly underestimating how much people hate autostop.

For the same reason, I like CARB. I grew up in Southern California back when we weren’t allowed to go outside for recess as children because of the smog levels. People that state they’re not effective are either blind or ignorant.I like the epa, because I actually remember how bad the air used to be.
I've seen the photos - they look like photos I've seen of some Chinese cities today. For the same reason, I like CARB. Me too!Just installed an Autostop Eliminator and am very pleased with it.

So, I was reading up on CAFE ratings to educate myself. I'm not so sure if the makers are forced into numbers or if there are just financial penalties. But the one thing that caught my eye was the 2025 agreement to reach 54 mpg mileage in cars and light trucks. There is no F'n way. Trucks as we know them are going to go away if that's the case. To "balance the scales" makers will have to sell more cars, and those cars will have to be electric or get 60-70 mpg. And Ford announced a while back they are ending production of all cars except for the Mustang I think. So now is that going to work out? (maybe we need a different thread for this discussion)Its not Ford its CAFE ratings!! They cant set it up to permanently disable ASS cause then it wouldnt meet the CAFE standard.
Because then he’d have to buy FORscan...?Why buy a product?
Why not just turn it off with FORScan?
