Next generation Ranger?

With Ford announcing changes to the line up of nearly all their vehicles by 2029 I wonder the fate of the Ranger beyond the current offerings. Is the Ranger selling well enough to keep it in the line up?

For me, unless Ford radically changes their approach to quality, it makes no difference. After 40 years of owning Fords, I think I've purchased my last one.

It would not surprise me in the least for them to discontinue it again. They will let NOTHING jeopardize the F-Series "best selling for x years" moniker, even if that means reducing choice for consumers.

Yea, someone reported on here that though Ford sales where down overall, the Ranger sales were up 19% for the same time period... thinking it will be around... if they fix the quality issues anyway...

I have a feeling the Ranger is going to be replaced by the "$30,000" "Model T Moment" electric midsize truck on their new modular platform. This isn't because the current 6G Ranger isn't selling well. I feel like I see more 6G's than I see 5g's. I feel this way because Ford product decisions aren't based on what is popular or what people want to buy - they're based on the opinions of a few dudes in suits all pining to be the Steve Jobs of auto manufacturing.

Here's a thought. Build the next gen Ranger and call it an F150! Everyone is happy!

It's basically working in Australia. IMO, Their Ranger under the skin is closer to an F150 than it is to the US Ranger. Better suspension, engines, etc.

Calling it an F-100 isn’t a terrible idea. Offer a “Ranger” trim that is offroad focused. It just might work!

My friend I don't think we have any REAL better choices. Going to Toyota, GM, or Dodge will just have us dealing with the same bs but different issues.

I always bought used and dealt with issues myself. For the wife we buy new and it's a honda. Not because I feel it's the most reliable brand. It's because the service has always been top notch.

We had an engine go out after the warranty on our 2006 civic. "no problem we will take care of it, it's a manufacturing issue". New engine ordered and replaced in 3 days.

Brand new 2018 crv also had the engine start tapping. "here is a rental, could you please give us time to get an engineer down here to find out why this happened". They ended up replacing the engine. This one took a month but I had a rental so I didn't care.

Other then that I never had any pain in the ass situations with them.

I walked out and went and got the tires balanced myself.. Problem solved.

I'm hearing from Toyota owners around here that they aren't much better with wanting to deal with issues.

If/when I need to replace my 5G, at this point, I'd seriously consider a Ridgeline. As I get older my needs for a "real" truck are less, and I think it would satisfy most of my needs. My daughter has a 2004 Accord that has over 200k on it and it has has had no issues and still drives like a new car. I have a friend with a CRV with over 300k on it and while it has had a couple of issues it serves him well. I have no illusions that modern day Honda's are that good, but they have not had NEARLY the recall issues that Ford has had.

I'm hoping I don't need to replace my Ranger for a number of years yet - my last Ranger I owned for 13 years and the only reason I replaced it was due to my knee and the clutch - my knee doesn't do well in stop and go traffic with the clutch, so I needed and automatic - my 4G Ranger was still in great shape. I'm going on 7 years with my 5G (just had my 7 year anniversary 10 days ago!) and it has treated me well thus far, so I've been very, very happy with it. My plan is to drive this one until the wheels fall off.

Maybe by the time I need to replace my 5G they will have gotten a new CEO that has really addressed the quality issue and things will be better for Ford. I hope so, but I am doubtful.

+1 on considering Ridgeline if I were to have to leave the Ranger.

I was at my dealer last week and walked the used lot. There were 3, 2025 Tacomas for sale with very low mileage. One had 99 miles on it. There must be some unhappy Taco owners out there.

Ranger 7g will just be an update to the last gen f150.
