Am I missing something? I thought ours was the 5th generation, but they're calling it the 4th, even though they've got the years as 2019-2023. My understanding is that the 4th is the ROW Ranger during the years (2011-2019) that a Ranger wasn't available in N. Am. Do I have that wrong?

I can definitely vouch for the first range being incredibly, and I mean wildly reliable!

I want to say that my parents had an 87 (maybe older by a few years), with a stick shift, vinyl seats, and even better, vinyl flooring! You definitely could get away with hosing it out :)

That would make me like four years old so you’ll have to forgive my memory lol, and I’m thinking the owned it until maybe 1990… Then they gave it to my uncle, who needed it really bad and we needed something bigger I think.

He drove it until 1997 for sure and possibly 1998. I don’t know how many miles it got but it was problem free well over 200,000 and probably approaching 300,000.
On another topic… Fourth generation?! Give me a break

On another topic… Fourth generation?! Give me a break AI is so ridiculous! It’s very worrisome because people automatically take these things as accurate so many times.

My God, the writers and places like yahoo are god awful and although I didn’t think it was possible, AI is absolutely worse! Sometimes it stands out a little better though because it’s just bat shit crazy/pure garbage info that it gives you! * at least you can then recognize it

I sold my 1998 regular cab, 4WD to my coworker prior to my purchase of my current Ranger. She continues to own the truck and loves it. 3.0 six cylinder and keeps on filling her needs for it. It was a good truck for me, but I wanted to get back to an S-Cab again.

The 2011 were sold in the US, I had one for ten years.

I would have to say that I agree on the 3rd gen Ranger ranking. I used to own a 2000 Mazda B3000 standard cab 4x2 with the automatic trans. This was a rebadged Ford Ranger with a different front grill. The Ford 3.0L v6 was the biggest POS motor I have ever owned. The motor hated to run on the summer blend fuel in Phoenix – it would commonly stall at idle. The motor had no power and got pathetic fuel economy. I actually tried to open a lemon law case on the truck and Mazda fought me every step of the way. I would have had to hire an attorney. I ended up trading it in after @ 1.5 years ownership with low miles on it.

Outside of the motor, the rest of the truck was fine. It actually handled and stopped well for a truck. My B3000 got maybe 1 mpg better than my Explorer with the 5.0L v8. With this being said, my Mazda PU would have been a whole lot more fun with a 5.0L v8 under the hood. It probably would have got better fuel economy too.

yeah it was definitely strange to see what clearly was the exact same vehicle just rebadged. I wonder if either of them carried a premium, and if so, it would have to be I suppose reputation and maybe work materials on the interior?

Do you know if even the interior was the exact same? My guess is essentially yes… But I really don’t recall…

Good question., It has been a long time but I do not think there was much of a price difference if any. I had purchased it new from Earnhardt Ford/Mazda in Chandler AZ. They were a large Ford dealer. If the Ranger was cheaper, I definitely would have purchased one. I think the interior was the same with different badges. I think it had the same dash as my '96 explorer.
