Going to change trans fluid and filter, was wondering if there was a diy write up on it. I remember reading something about a piece you have to take off old filter and put on the new one.

There is a gasket on the filter, sort of like a O ring. You could reuse, but they are only around $6.00 through Rock Auto. Maybe double that at a dealer.

Here is what I did on my tranny fluid change at ~36000 mi.:

1. Got everything up to operating temperature.
2. Obtained a little fuel pump, a "brrrrrp" type" shown here below.
1774619437804-3r.webp

+ 1/4" i.d. PVC tubing was used. ~72 "+/- long and ran one end into the trans.
+ The pump had enough "guts" for suction lift - about 3ft. and discharged into milk jugs.
3. All most all of the tranny fluid was pumped out and into 2 clean, dry milk jugs.
4. After the pan was pulled, the little bit of remaining tranny fluid was added to one of the jugs and then the levels were marked.
5. The pan and the magnet were cleaned, filter was not changed, but inspected. All was good there.
+ Fluid was fairly clean. No metal particles or debris visible on filter paper.
6. Pan was reinstalled with the original gasket. (When the truck hits 60K miles then I'll change the
filter.)
7. New tranny fluid was poured into the now empty, marked milk jugs to the same level. It was
pumped back into the trans. Fluid hit the right level after it was all warmed up.
8. Fluid level was checked after 1/2 hr run time. All was OK.
9. At 40 K Miles, all is OK

Semper Fi,
B

There’s a couple videos on YouTube that I watched before I did mine. I suggest you do the same.

I just dropped mine off at Ford, and they told me 329 to do a fluid flush but then the called and said this vehicle has no way to hook up to do a flush (10 Speed Transmission) and said they would have to drop the pan and replace the filter and fluid at a cost of over $700. Does this sound right to you all? I declined the service until I can understand why and more about the issues with the 10 Speed transmission as far as servicing.

My dealer did a flush on mine a couple of months ago. Was like $230 ish.

If you're planning on doing this again:

1-install a MBS dipstick
2-install a PPE sump
3-get a 12V pump and...

Then they need to read their own service manuals as it needs proper tooling (adaptor plate) as called out in the manual.
