then they shouldn't market it as a truck or put 4x4 in from the factory if they dont want to take it off road?
F*** Them....
I would say it sat in the driveway for 50k miles and all that dirt blew up from being close to the curb
But, the bed is actually useful for transporting a 2 x 4 (1), or a box of nails (1), or 3 bags of groceries......(includes one 6 pack).....:like:
(paved road only)

Just because it’s called an Expedition doesn’t mean you can drive it offroad. That’s “on road” expeditions only

Mustang 2.3 compatible with Ranger? I'm thinking the electronics would freak out...
Kinda compatible but not really. The Turbo is quite different and so are the turbo connections. The bell housing bolt pattern is the same, but the shape isn't quite the same and would have gaps with the 10r80

Explorer/bronco/ranger 2.3's are all the same and built for longevity and torque. Mustang 2.3 has some differences. I don't believe the harnesses are compatible.

Something I didn't mention previously regarding the diagnosed coolant intrusion issue... the moment this happened was the first I've ever seen an alarm mentioning coolant ever. When I pulled over to get towed I checked the coolant reservoir levels and they were normal right in between the lines... I haven't refilled coolant anytime recently so I don't know how much could've intruded... I also wasn't super focused on that coolant alarm as about a dozen other seemingly all unrelated alarms were going off. Stuff like terrain system fault, hill start assist, pre-collision assist, etc etc before it settled on the generic "see manual" alarm. I was surprised to hear that the issue was coolant intrusion considering that coolant levels were normal.
Didn't someone on here have all kinds of warnings when the cooling fan shit the bed and ripped up all the wiring?

Off Subject.....but with second and third row seats down there is almost as much floor as a pick up with an 8 foot bed....third row seat down, as much space as a Ranger Crew Cab. And mileage is pretty much the same as the Ranger. Using premium I can eek out around 20 mpg, 15 if I drive it "playfully" !!!

That's what I thought...asides from differing physical connections, Ranger's 2.3 is tuned for torque and I think crank/stroke is different...

Yours is the second I've heard of water intrusion, and there's one on the 6G, but his is low miles and still under warranty.
The 'off road' comment is out of line and irrelevant, unless you have an ESP to fight them on it.
To be the bearer of bad news, OEM is 60K miles, and unless there is a rash of failures like this, I'm afraid you will be SOL.
Even with the rash of transmission failures and this odd scenario, there will still be people that say ESP warranties are a waste of money.

Here's the link to the 6G with water intrusion. Take a look at:
(8) 2024 XL (STX) 2.3L coolant intrusion | Ranger6G - 2024+ Ranger & Raptor Forum, News, Owners, Community (6th Gen)

It doesn't seem like he's had a definite response to cause of failure.
And look what has to be done to get to it:

...better than a Honda Ridgeline unibody.

In modern cars, when all sorts of sheet starts going crazy at once, I think battery or other electrical, as modern car electronics seem to be very touchy. Did they actually CONFIRM coolant in the cylinders or oil, or just guessing at it?

Update: The dealer service consultant is upset with me for ratting her out to corporate about this being an issue caused by "off-roading". She told me not to tell corporate that I've "off-roaded" before and I told them that she told me that 🤷‍♂️ Maybe I shouldn't have. I dunno if I screwed myself by doing that... the suggestion that off-roading or tire sizes caused this just seemed so ridiculous that I had to mention it. They've put in warranty request with corporate. Might take a few days for that to process with a decision.

More info: the tech used a bore scope and saw head gasket failure and extensive scoring on cylinder walls. No cooling fan issues.

Of course she's upset because she now looks like a fool for saying it! It's obvious it wasn't abused so I wouldn't worry about it and let Ford corporate handle it. The more they (Ford) know the better because they may be getting misinformation from the lady at the dealership.

I think you did right by quoting her to Ford. I would have done the same if I were made to feel I had to go up the ladder to corporate in order to get help. Thats not your fault.
