When you are using the charger, are you connecting the negative lead to the chassis instead of the negative battery terminal? If connected directly to the negative terminal, the truck will not calculate the amount of charge correctly.

yes, the negative is connected to the chassis. I have the CTEK pigtail accessory permanently attached.

2019 Ranger, now 6 years 8 months old, original battery. The first 4 years, I put it on a charger about every 6 months. Now, I throw one of my 1.5 amp trickle chargers on every few weeks because it typically sits for 5 days at a time. I've found that regularly charging vehicle batteries, whether you drive them daily or very rarely, helps prolong their life significantly. I can usually get 8-10 years out of a car or truck battery maintaining that way. The batteries that sit for long periods, stay plugged into smart trickle chargers - I replaced my original 2007 Mustang battery that sat parked WAY more than it was driven, at 16 years old. I got 12 years out of my original Kubota tractor battery.

My 2019 Ranger is going on 7 years and I use a maintainer/charger about every 4 to 6 months. We go on long trips for vacation or to Denver to visit son and daughter. The battery is working fine and after this last trip the ASS started working again. But I do get the message if I don't drive it for a few days.

In case anyone is interested, $18 back when you buy a new battery at Ford and return the old one. The new battery also has a 3 warranty I'm told.
