Planning a trip in august and still considering a 12V 'fridge.
How's everyone's units holding up?
I'm think 40 quart from setco as a bridge in price and quality. Any other recommendations under $500.00?
I've had the RV45S for 3 years now and really like this cooler. We take it along on all our trips and it has worked out great. We also use it for grocery runs because it's so hot here and we can now go to multiple stores without having to rush home with our food. I use it with my Bluetti EB55 power station and it can go all day while we're out hiking and only use around 40% of the power. What's nice is it only takes about 20 minutes to pre cool it from storage to fridge temp.

The AJ40 is a nice unit too. I ordered this one first but it was a little small for what I needed and sent it back for the RV45S. Just be aware that the side handles on this unit do not fold flat. It's not a deal breaker but it is nice when they do like on the RV model.

They have a couple dual zone ones too. I didn't care for them because the inside compartment on the smaller unit is very small because of the split system. But if you think you'll need both fridge and freezer running simultaneously it's a good system.

Just returned home from a three day trip. The IceCo didn’t disappoint

ICECO20 worked great for our recent trip to MI...added a couple of Igloo Ice Blocks and the fridge stayed ice cold each night while off power...

Our Iceco VL60 Pro has been great. We’ve used it on several trips up to 2 weeks at a time and it holds temps well. On long trips we use it as a freezer to keep frozen food and to refreeze ice packs for a Pelican cooler for our fresh food. We also use it in the basement at home as extra fridge space. We’re going on 2 years with it with no problems. I do want to come up with a slide for the truck for it at some point.

I built this one. Holds the fridge in the middle. Two Front Runner cases hold the “kitchen” on the end close to the tailgate. And a 10lb propane bottle fits at the front beside a Bluetti solar generator.

Was a pretty good thread going a few years ago on the subject. Thought I’d bring it up again.

Set power is running some pretty good sales as of late and I’m thinking of grabbing one for travel and extra storage need be.

Looking to get some ideas on size, say 2 adults for a week end trip or regular restocks. Theres a 37 liter for 299.00. I know size is subjective for sure. I need to make sure the height will stay under my bed cover. I think 50 liter would be tops in size.

As one that understands the saying "you get what you pay for", I would recommend not going with a cheap Fridge/Freezer like Set Power.

As for size, a 37 liter isn't too bad. I have a Domestic CFX3-35 and it works very well. I got it used a few years back and it had been reliable to say the least.

My suggestion? Get a good known brand and not some cheap unit. You will thank yourself later for spending the extra money.

The fridge in question

My Engel has been good for 25 years and counting, but new ones are about $1200, I think. I added a Setpower AJ30 after AZScorpion got his and while I haven't used it a lot I am happy with it. It fits the small backseat area of my Supercab better than the Engel. Its great for the shorter trips I now do.

@ppfd How are you liking the SetPower DT?

I've been trying to fight off getting a 12v cooler but honestly I don't know why. We had a fridge freezer in my sportsmobile and I loved it. Since we downsized to the Ranger and downsized our budget as well I've really prioritized keeping things simple. I've come to realize there's nothing simple about soggy food and running out of ice. I've got my eyes on a SetPower DT35 or maybe the Iceco APL35. I picked up a Jackery 1000 w/ solar last Black Friday for a screaming deal and now i think ill get a fridge for what Id spend on ice over the year and a half.

Don’t fight the urge lol. We bought one about 6 months ago. We use it all the time. It’s great for Softball Tournaments. We use it weekly going to our neighbors to hangout. I installed the Wolfhouse 12v bed adapter in the bed. It makes it even more practical. Good for cold groceries also. I have several of the big Ryobi batteries and use the with the 120 AC converter to run it a lot of the time.

Honestly, its still sitting in my kitchen unused! :D
Only few trips we took were limited on space as we had our big doberman with us. He and his stuff took up the backseat of my GFs Honda Civic we took up to northern Minnesota. Other trip I met her at Indiana Dunes and really didn't have a need for it.
Will say Set Power customer service is really good. I ordered and extra "new style" power cord as the cooler listing wasn't real clear on what came it it. C.S. emailed me and said I didn't need it as it did come with the new cord. I never even had to ask, they caught it. Warranty is automatic when you buy it. No registration needed.
I installed the Wolf Hause receptacle as well. Super awesome shop! He even built me a cord for free to power my knock off battery box.
