Not sure where this should be posted but is anyone else but me looking forward to the upcoming Ram midsize pickup truck? It's supposedly going to be built at the Toledo North factory where the Jeep Wranglers are built. I always liked the Dakota but not the last couple of years when they mucked up the styling. Could be interesing.

" Not sure where this should be posted"

It's waaaaaay at the bottom of the list

General Automotive (Other Vehicles)

Ask me how I know

As to your question I am curious for sure to see another midsize option.

I'm always looking forward to new mid size trucks coming out because competition is good. It "should" make all the others step up their game and if not this new truck can/will take sales away and force the others to be better.

I had a Dodge Ram 50 (Mitsubishi) as a trade-in and I was looking at a Dakota when I bought my ‘96 Ranger. I felt it might be a little too big for my liking but, like the Ranger, the design was right.

I didn’t like the styling change they made later, as Mike said above. It seemed like it had an identity crisis for a while before it disappeared. I’m interested to see what they come up with.

They really have a lot to live up to with all the other great mid-sixpze trucks out there. If they go all out and want to challenge Tremor and Raptor, maybe we’ll see a Power Wagon version or an Express Truck or Warrior.

I’ll be looking forward to seeing if they release a Baby TRX 😁.. midsize truck with a supercharged 392 in it 😂.. sounds fun to me.
It's a Dodge so you know they'll try and shoehorn a Hemi into it. lol

🤔 Wanna bet someone there already tried getting one into a station wagon? 🤣

I'm interested for a few reasons...
  • Possible naturally aspirated option (especially if they throw in 3.6 pentastar)
  • Possibly large aftermarket support if it shares components with the Gladiator
  • A multifunction tailgate similar to their 1500s would be very cool
As far as I see it, more competition is always good.

I suspect with the launch of their 2.0L turbo motor the Pentastar will be just about dead.

And....

If you think Ford can F-up a design, let the Italians and French get in on the party and see where that leaves you. I don't think those guys can engineer their way down a one-way street and come out facing the right direction.

Ram makes (made?) a good truck, but the nightmares I've heard out of the new engine line gives me a bit of pause, and you can't bank on having V8s forever. (Not that the midsize will have a V8, just that they've stuck with that line of engines for so long and haven't innovated as much as maybe they should have over the years.)

But yes, competition is a good thing for sure.

:)

There are trucks consumers would desire, then there are the trucks the accountants will build. And that engineers will be forced to compromise on.

It doesn't feel like a long term investment when that comes together but then here I am with no timeline on moving away from my 5G.

I’d say made, not makes. One of my buddies is a mechanic at a dealership, he said 95% of the trucks he works on are new Rams. Apparently they have all sorts of issues. He said he wouldn’t own one if you paid him to drive it lol. Every make and model has their issues but Ram seems to be the worst since the Chrysler/Fiat conglomeration. Personally, I’ve always been a Ford guy so I’m biased anyway. First truck was a Chevy that ended up being a POS. Since then, I’ve always liked Fords.
