We should definitely just stick with what we've got. It's just like how running electricity in the first place was stupid because you could already get whale oil or coal oil for your lamp anywhere--no need for that new-fangled electric crap. God knows, this country was built on the spirit of "it's hard and what we've got is good enough so lets just sit around and do nothing". They didn't call it the "greatest generation" for nothing--those guys were the best at being lazy and pessimistic!

You said somewhere that you couldn't wait for the pictures, and that this pic was just a guess as to how it would look. Had we only known how much worse it could get...

After watching people like Rich Rebuilds on youtube, I can say it's squarely safe to assume that every single tesla with more than 50K is at best on it is on it's second set of motors, or will be as soon as you buy it second hand. There's nothing special about a Tesla, bearings wear out, things break, the state of their "parts department" is shameful at best (See the "thrifty three" series by TFLCar on youtube". 100% guarantee that the truck's range will be 7% of the stated amount while towing at or near it's capacity... It's just math, there is no such battery capable of that type of energy storage yet. To make it more clear, Tesla themselves has recently stopped selling certified pre-owned due to the maintenance costs their cars incur after being customer "owned" for short amounts of time. They still sell Used, but they've dropped the CPO program.

nope. there's tons of vehicles still using original parts. Some people that get a Tesla do drag launches at every stop light and this increases motor wear alot.

30k in 7 months on my wife's model 3. Not a thing wrong with it. Only difference between now and day we got it, the car has 10% more performance and 5% more range oh and I had to add washer fluid. Damn maintenance on a Tesla is so time consuming.

I do recall a car manufacturer making a vehicle out of stainless steel once. In fact, there was a movie about it and some crazy old guy turned it into a time machine. Then that company bankrupted itself. I’m sure it’ll work this time, though.

I didn't say stick with what we have, I'm merely suggesting that I'd like this and so many other technologies that aren't quite there to not be stuffed down my throat by force.

The only reason we have solar panels in our town is because DTE gets paid to put them in, same with windmills. They don't meaningfully contribute to the electric power grid capacity. We should be investing in ways to create the electricity we need to run electric cars before we jump head first into electric transportation... Now you'll have to forgive me, I'll be out back working on building my own LFTR.

Each one? No, of course not. In aggregate, they're over 5% of US total and upwards of 20% on some grids.

Ah right, the principle of "we can't do more than one thing at a time so don't do X because of unrelated Y". Another long-standing tradition that helped build this country into what it is!

Ask yourself this question.

If we have enough Fluoride and Thorium on the planet to power it for eternity, and Fluoride/Thorium is not a nuclear weapons concern, why haven't we built a Thorium/Fluoride reactor yet?

No, instead we would rather build solar panels in states that spend 9 months under a blanket of snow and clouds in order to collect more sheckels from the consumer... I get that solar panels still produce power on cloudy days, but it's absolutely not a net gain in those situations.

China is building the biggest one ever conceived because they know if they don't then they will be screwed.

They should sell the platform for $20000.
I would love to put a 1946 Ford 4dr sedan on that , easy street rod!

There are lots of reasons, but none of them are the conspiracy theory you seem to be looking for.

That's what I wish for the most. Some company selling highly size configurable battery skates to fit all different sized bodies. I have an old 2000 Ranger I love and want to get it fully restored. I'd love to toss the body on an electric skate and drive off into the sunset.

Rivian, which conveniently Ford has already invested in.

I really really hope the best Rivian does well and I happily buy something like that from them. But it's a huge uphill battle having never released a vehicle yet. Rivian probably will be fine since they've had huge investments from the likes of Ford and Amazon

Tesla's about to start releasing their 5th vehicle the Y and people still think they aren't a serious automaker.

Tesla does really well at certain things traditional car companies really suck at, but they still have serious issues delivering other things that traditional car companies have been doing as a matter of course for a hundred years. Financially they still seem more like a Ponzi scheme then a real company.
