TLDR: Ford Premium Protect warranty paid for itself today.

The other title I was going to post this week: Lots Of Ranger Goodies For Sale

As I have mentioned on here, I have taken my truck in multiple times for the HVAC box issue and funky transmission shifting issues.

My truck is a 2019 with 36,700 miles on it.

EVERY time I have dropped it off, I have gotten the No Problem Found from the dealer, only for me to promptly find the problem on the way home.

My extended warranty expires in December, so I also recently posted that I was dropping it off for the LAST time. And if I got No Problem Found again, I was DONE.

I had already pretty much decided on trading it for a Tesla Model 3 Performance and then getting a cheap beater pickup.

So yesterday I dropped it off at the dealer to have them check the HVAC (SSM-51313) and asked that they do the transmission test procedure in TSB 25-2024

I also provided them a flash drive with a couple of videos showing the climate set at 70 degrees, driver side air coming out at 72 degrees and passenger side air at 120 degrees.

My heater box issue was sporadic and yesterday morning it was dumping heat on the passenger side again. Of course, by the time I got to the dealer it was working fine. I had actually opened a case directly with Ford on this (a FAR request),

My intent was if they told me No Problem Found that I would return the truck to completely stock and then sell all the stuff on it as well as the brand new stuff still sitting in the garage that I was waiting to find out if Ford would fix the truck before installing.

The dealer called me just a little while ago.

Heater box will be completely replaced and transmission will be completely rebuilt. FINALLY! And all for the cost of my $50 deductible (+ tax of course).

The service advisor told me that when they started it this morning the HVAC was roasting the passenger side. It actually exhibited the issue for a change!

And when they performed the transmission test, it failed multiple areas of the test.

So hopefully in a week or so, I'll have my truck back with my only 2 real concerns addressed.

Very happy to finally get my concerns validated and a solution is inbound.

Audible sigh of relief.

Happy to hear it Dennis - I was half expecting your post to end with an announcement and picture of a new vehicle. Let’s hope it goes well.

Glad they're finally fixing it for you Dennis but man, it should be this difficult! These are known failures and have been so for several years in which they should've performed these at least by the second time around. The 10R80 has been a known problem through several of their vehicles not just the Ranger and by now every shop should know the updates and procedures on how to deal with it.

Thanks!

If the phone call had gone any other way, there would've been a picture of a Tesla (Sacrilege!) up there.

THIS is what really frosted me.

These are VERY known issues and getting the runaround so many times had definitely worn out its entertainment value.

Happy to hear that you are getting your truck repaired. I personally like your truck better than a Tesla.

You're Welcome! Always happy to help someone else spend their money! 😁

The Model 3 Performance will probably still happen, just not next week! 🤪

Glad you are finally are having the issues resolved. For what you have gone through on this they should wave the deductable.
The deductible doesn't bother me a bit.

I'll gladly spend the devil out of $50 to get this headache resolved.

It's great to hear that the dealer is finally going to fix those 2 issues. I had both of those issues fixed under warranty and my Ranger has been bullet proof since. Of course I have not fired a shot at it.

You have far more patience than me. I went in once... got the "All of them do it speech" No problem found.

I haven't gone back... probably should have, but haven't. I did purchase the extended warranty good for 10 years and 125K miles (I think). If it actually goes out I'll have them replace it then. Changing the fluid at 18K miles and bottle of LubeGard cured my issues.

When I power braked the transmission I noticed what I thought was an erratic release (torque converter slipping perhaps), but it could have been the AC compressor cycling.

When I get around to it, I'll check it out again with the AC off.

So I heard from the dealer today.

All parts came in and the heater box gets replaced tomorrow and probably started on the transmission.

I possibly could have the truck back on Thursday or Friday this week.

Here's hoping.

My main questions is why could I not have been driving it until the parts came in?

It's not like the heater box would have gotten worse, or heaven forbid, the transmission would need rebuilding.

Sorry, Dennis.
I was just letting you know there's a precedent set for such things.
Your dealer may vary 🤪
