Brake Job Cost

2014 Honda CRV
In December of last year they said all four my break pads and rotors will need to be replaced during the next service. I have an appointment coming up next week for the works package and I expect them to mention about my breaks needing replacing. My truck has 46400 miles on it. Just curious how much the breaks would be. I’m guessing around 1000-1200 dollars

I'll do it for $999.99...seriously, those are pretty high number just to replace brake parts...I'd consider DIY...as I'm planning to do next year...

Huummm... Rotors at 46K seem odd... would not expect that quit yet... pads... well, OK. (maybe depends on the loads you carry or trailer towing.... same for rotors, I suppose).

If rotors did not need turning (best to do it even if only slightly glassed so the new pads bed in properly) then just pads all around, $150 for the pads; twice that for labor (or do it yourself) should do it. Turn all 4 rotors is probably $50 each (at a dealer)??? So, $650 all in???

Rockauto is $334 (worst case kit) for all 4 wheels... rotors, pads and hardware plus a Saturday afternoon and a six pack.

You should resurface rotors when replacing pads. You need to create a good mating surface for the new pads. Now... rotors have come down a lot in price and to labor to resurface is usually more than new rotors.

Couple of things. There's absolutely nothing wrong with a 'pad slap' if everything else is in good condition. A lot of times, the rotors that come on the vehicle are worlds better than any aftermarket, including Motorcraft..... There's no need to surface the rotors unless they are severely grooved, and at that point, replacement is usually easier.

Except.

For whatever reason, the rear rotor/pad combination on a whole lot of the 5G Rangers, have been garbage and are generally best off thrown in the trash and replaced.

Fronts seem to be much better.

Either way, DIY is fairly simple if you have some confidence and tools.

Just remember the rear calipers are 'screw in' type and are easiest to do if you buy a version of the special tool to do them. Fronts can be done with your favorite C-Clamp or a specialty tool.

My personal choice for truck pads are the Bendix Fleet Metlock's.

Brakes are sooo easy to DIY. Watch youtube videos and save yourself a ton of money.

Good videos and the replacement of parts is not difficult. In my past life I replaced hundreds of Transit bus brakes that were shoe and drum type. Later with a fleet of Rangers I replace hundreds of pads and rotors along with rear shoes and drums.

That's what I plan on...my pads are probably going to last me past 150K or more...goes without saying but the pads having lasted this long is due to my conscious avoidance to abuse the brakes...so the disks are all smooth and undistorted...
