Finally got my Ranger back from warrantied transmission repair. Is this what has been the common issue?

Whats the point of buying an extended warranty if you don’t use it? I would let them fix it before you decide what to do. Trading for another truck is the most expensive outcome you can have.
Joe, thanks. The new replacement transmission is under the dealership's warranty. So, it is on them to fix. I just wonder if the dealership will provide me with a decent transmission. I think they replaced my transmission with a rebuild instead of a remanufactured. What I was told is that a remanufactured transmission has all new part within the drum.

The transmission documentation is attached.
The part number for the transmission indicates that it was a new transmission not a reman or rebuilt. Needs to get back to the dealer to sort out what’s going on. But the new transmission does have all the updates.

Thank you Steve. In a couple weeks I am scheduled to take my Ranger in.

Curious what the dealer could have done to introduce problems in a replacementtransmission. Bad programming, insufficient fluid? Hopefully you'll get resolution and we'll all learn something.

Hi Guys,

After taking in my Ranger, with a "new" transmission, the dealership reprogrammed the PCM and transmission characterization. I don't know what this means.

What I do know is that the transmission wasn't fixed. It still has a hard shift. Attached is the work order.

At this point, what I am sure of, is that the replacement transmission is defective or was incorrectly installed. At the same time, this transmission is acting like the transmission that was replaced.

I was told by the service department that there was a 50% chance that the reprogramming would work. But that they had to try this reprogramming.

They didn't do anything about the leak?? They noted in the work order but didn't have a solution?

Couple of observations
The transmission is a new transmission so chances of defect would be minimal but not out of the question.
Looks like they reflashed the transmission. The new transmission when installed would have been reflashed also. It’s part of the install process. It’s possible the initial reflash had an issue and was the cause of your problem.
I would recommend driving it for a few hundred miles and see what happens. My new transmission went through the learn process and it took a short period to sort out.

Thats what my service writer said for me to do when mine was rebuilt last week. 2-300 miles or so to sort itself out.

P164C - Relates to the (ASS -Inop) nothing specific to the transmission.

Since the transmission was replaced and you have the identical symptoms, then they need to look at the MAPT Sensor - as it factors in the the shift points, plus are you sure its - Trans Shift and not Buck / Surge - The DPFE sensor has had past history of miss diagnosis and transmission work was done and issue still remained.

If this is a (No Code - No Problem) shop - they will never find it unless they specifically look at the DPFE Sensor and EGR Valve PID's and more importantly how far the EGR valve shows open.

But it could very well be, just a reprogram is all that was needed, so just throwing out the 2 highest possibilities as the DPFE and the MAPT will not always code.

Thanks for the feedback guys. The transmission stopped leaking as there is no more trans fluid on the garage floor. This transmission now has 2500 miles.

Alright! After taking my truck into a different dealership and explaining what happened, they cracked it open and immediately found metal shavings in the trans pan.
Got me approved for a brand new transmission from Ford and within 6 days of drop off I got my truck back!
I can finally drive with confidence I will make it to my destination. Going to get some offroading done soon ?

Well, I took my truck into the dealership yesterday with the documentation Revised TSB 25-2024 from this website on transmission problems parts listed for repairs.
I had 4 days left on 5-year warranty. I had printed out and highlighted many entries of the TSBs.
I had similar complaints (3) of transmission issues in the past.
They called and are going to keep the truck for repairs parts will probably be 7 days out. I tried to get a remanufactured or new replacement, but Ford said no.
MILEAGE 14,786..
Many THANKS to members here for ALL their contributions to this forum!!

Glad they’re taking care of it for you. But a 2019 usually won’t qualify for the LTIS ( low time in service) policy that would give you a replacement transmission even with your low mileage. But if they find worse once they get into it they may switch to a replacement.
