I've read every response to this thread. You & I are at the bottom of the pile. You're the only person that gets mileage as bad as I do. Almost all of these dudes are claiming 20+ mpg. I like my throttle pedal but jeezus krist ! There's no way i'm "THAT" aggressive. Or is everyone else driving like an old lady ? Or did I get a shitty tune ? I started with the standard SCT tuner. My mileage was just as bad with that tune (10.6 - 11.8 mpg). The, I bought the Revolution Automotive Tune as a Christmas present to myself. My 0-60 times (9 hours after the install) were 5.15 sec. backed up by a 5.23 pull. I still get the same mileage (10.6 - 11.8 mpg). I just cannot comprehend how these other guys are in the 20's unless their tunes aren't as strong as mine.
I do not drive like I stole it, in fact I drive rather modest.
I like a motor to pull, not rev out so I’m easy through the first 3 or 4 gears.
I really don't use sport or tow mode as they rev out too much for my driving style. I do live in the hills though…
70-75 mph on the freeway but 5-10 over on many roads. I just ease my way to that speed.
The low gears shifting sucks. The shaky drive line sucks, as does the fuel mileage.
It not one of the better vehicles I’ve owned.
Still its a nice looking pick up and I bear with it.

Nah just gonna keep trying to vote the current governing party out of office for California.. and go bigger in tire size while I’m at it?. Cali is part of the United States and I’ll do what I can. Lived here too long to just give up and leave.. trust me I’ve thought about leaving.
I know the pain of CA but understand the love for it. I grew up in So. Cal, 42yo now. When we got married we moved to Huntington Beach, a mile from the pier for our last 5 years in CA. Grew up in the ghetto and worked our way out of it. I thought we were living the dream but cost of living and having twin boys, we saw the writing on the wall and left 7 years ago to Vegas.

So many great memories but I am totally content visiting whenever we want and always happy to come home to Vegas (Henderson technically). I wish CA the best and hope somehow it can return to the great state it can be. It is getting milked dry and unless you already own a home, I honestly don't understand how people do it there.

Ignorance is bliss I suppose. Not knowing how good it can be outside of CA. It was weird because we sat in our living room days after a trip to Oahu and asked ourselves why do we do this rat race. That moment started it.

Interesting. I have 6 stop/starts on my drive to work. That's 36 stop/starts per day (3 round trips from home to work & back) in sport mode with a moderate to heavy foot. @ 11 mpg avg. lately.

But 17.8 mpg on a 360 mile round trip,,, all highway @ 80 mph,,, flat lands. That sucks. I was only above 90 mph for 18 miles. The rest of the trip was on cruise at 80. SUX !
Honestly, kinda just sounds normal. Moderate to heavy foot and 11mpg in the city, sounds about right. The hwy 17.8mpg with some 90mph driving and your tire size, sure maybe 20mpg tops but not too far off. It is why when I tow I don't go over 68mph even when in Utah it is 80mph. My MPG TANK at over 65mph.

The 27mpg you were getting seemed miraculous for the driving style you describe.

On a side note, where did you get that engine cover? I ended up getting an OEM ford one but it is not perfect.

I bought it used for $75. Then, I cut it up so it would fit around my oil separator and painted it to match my Coolant Expansion Tank.

Jcr off road engine cover is nice, pretty sure it’s been modded as well to make clearance for the oil separator/catch can thingy…which looks good….

Yeah I’m stubborn not ignorant?. We came close to packing up the families and making a move because of the strange situation with the schools and what they were leaning into.. anyway this isn’t the place for me to get into that?..

@TDF017 , Thanks, I may put that in place of the OEM Ford one. That aluminum one looks to actually block any water that could get into the coils better than the Ford one would, which is why I got it.

The tuning adventure has reached its conclusion.

I started with an off-the-shelf SCT BDX tuner from Steeda. It was an decent improvement over stock in every area. But I knew they weren't giving me everything. So...

My next tune was from Revolution Automotive. It was a massive improvement over the off-the-shelf tune. But the lower gear shifts were a little harsh.

I returned my truck to the stock tune to see how it would affect my mileage,,, and it got worse.

I'm fine with that because I got bored with the stock tune pretty quickly.

Revolution Automotive rewrote my tune to soften up the shifts. So I reinstalled it and it's amazing. Tons of power. Smooth linear shifts in the lower gears = fast AF ! Way faster than my previous tune. Adam nailed it. And it doesn't feel like it's stressing the transmission at all.

And, after filling up with gas, I took a 23 mile road trip with mixed hwy/city driving. Somehow (I know it's not accurate) I managed to get 19.9 mpg. Which my truck hasn't done since I got it new. I credit the smoother shifting.

I also saw the best bumper sticker at a traffic light today...

I'm pretty pleased right now...

Good to hear you got a tune to your satisfaction.

As for the bumper sticker, sounds like the other driver needs to lube their spline.
Dude ??ā€ā™‚

We'll see soon enough. I may go off road tomorrow to see how it acts. And, so I can test my magnetic light mounts to see if they can hold tight while shredding off road.

Adam isn't the easiest person to reach. Don't bother trying to call the shop. I usually get ahold of him thru loweredon33s. He works at Revolution Automotive. I send him a message thru this site and Adam usually calls or emails a few days later.

Or,,, you could email Adam Browne at...

[email protected]

You won't be disappointed.

Now that I'm going back to virtually stock, with the exception of the intake manifold spacer, I'm back down to 18-19. I used to get 21-24 combined.
