Something Odd with the Leaf Springs

Dang, I'm going to have to check mine. A few weeks ago after having oil changed and tires rotated there was a loud pop/bang sound as I pulled out of the Quick Lane parking lot. I stopped and looked but did not see anything obviously wrong. But now I am thinking it might have been a broken spring(s) popping back into place.

Just got back home from Florida snowbirding and checked my leaf springs. Sure enough, the spring on the right side of my Ranger is broken exactly like the pictures posted in this thread.

Yep. Just had my right side replaced under extended warranty a few weeks ago. Would have been $2300 without the warranty. It just paid for itself.

I put the EU spec springs on an held onto the stock springs in case anyone near by needs them

Mine were broke, just paid $2400 at the stealer to get them replaced.

Yup at 50k. Only hauled a snowmobile in the back.

I guess I need to jack up my Ranger and look, I've been pulling a +6,000lb trailer 4-6 times a year since I got the truck and the last couple of years was a 2-3 hour drive with it each way. I'm really wanting to research any other differences on the EU Ranger besides the springs, Are the bolts, shackles and bearings in the axle the same? If I find the springs are the only rear load bearing different I'll consider that almost a 900lb rear axle and payload increase.

When I rotate the tires I normally never unload the rear axle completely, I put the jack stands so far behind the front tires that I can just about lift the back off the ground by hand at the hitch, so I just put a block of wood on my floor jack and lift rear tires just off the by the pumpkin.

Considering the small sample of owners represented by this forum and the frequency of this very specific issue I think we've identified another issue common to the 5G that needs to be addressed... and Ford should be fixing it at no cost to owners.

More than a few of us moved off the monoleafs for other reasons already.

I just had a similar experience 2 days ago… Driving home from work taking an S curve in the road, I heard/felt a loud pop in the rear when the weight of the truck shifted. When I turned back the other way, it popped again. Almost felt like something hit the underside of the truck but I know I didn’t run over anything.

Pulled over and checked but didn’t see anything obvious. I thought maybe the ubolts for the axle shifted since I just installed 1.5” lift blocks a few weeks ago, but I checked them when I got home and they hadn’t moved. After seeing this thread, I’m definitely checking my leaf springs when I get off work…

No need to jack it up. Run your fingers up along the spring where the breaks are shown in the pictures posted to this thread. You will easily feel the open gap from the break.
