I want to get a bed cover for my 2019 ranger, I just dont know what brand or style to choose from. So I want your recommendations. Should I buy new or used ? Hard top or soft? Folding or roll up?

I also need a bed liner as I have the plain metal bed right now. Should I go spray on or drop in? And what brand do y'all recommend?

I love my Bak Revolver X4S! I was thinking about getting a bed liner as well until I got the cover. With the cover there’s not really a need for a liner.

On various trucks I've had a version of nearly all of them; clamshell hard top, rollup, retractable hard cover. The only one I've not had is tri-fold.

Clamshell (1X) - good security, water proof, difficult to load bed, difficult to remove if cargo is higher than bed rails, difficult to store.

Rollup (2X) - poor security, offers weather protection but allows some water in, easy to load bed, never needed to remove, no need to store (rolls up out of way when using bed).

Hard retractable (2X) - good security, offers weather protection but allows some water in, easy to load bed, difficult to remove (lose about 12 inches of bed length), wouldn't be hard to store, if needed.

My use cases in order of preference - hard retractable, rollup, clamshell. In fact, I wouldn't go clamshell again it was just . . . difficult to use as a truck.

It's all about how much security you need and how you use your truck bed.

I've had 1 truck with a bed mat and several with spray-in bedliner. I'll go spray-in every time now.

I have the BAK Flip MX4 and like it. It does what it needs to do. It is heavy rain resistant but not waterproof. I've had metal retractable covers before and I like the BAK Flip because I don't lose the ~12 inches of bed length. If the entire load doesn't fit under the cover, its easier just to expose 1/3 of the load than doing that with a retractable.

As far as spray in versus plastic drop in, I've had both and prefer the spray in. My truck originally came with the drop in and it was a pain to get to the tie downs, as well as the 12V plug. I removed the drop in in then had the bed sprayed. Much happeir.

I have the Bak Revolver X4s and a full BedRug.

Love that tonneau in the summer. I can roll it up close to the cab and still see over it. Big downside is, here in New England, is that it can freeze and be very, very difficult to open.

Love the BedRug because it's easy on the knees and holds up very well.

Downside, again in winter, is that the flap that connects the tailgate part to the rest freezes and makes it hard to open the tailgate. I tend to use isopropyl to thaw that flap. I have melted some small holes in it using a heat gun.

Thanks, Steve. I had to mute myself on a company meeting because like the Big He-Man that I am, I was blubbering while posting those pics.

As you know, it sure is hard losing a little 4-legged companion.

Kota helps and, where Cheech loved to sit for hours, in the backyard. Kota likes to walk. We did 3.5 miles yesterday. That little guy is gonna get my fat a$$ in shape! =)

Look at facebook market place. I bought a hard roll up in good condition for $300. New it is 1300. I bought a hard retractable that I didnt really want but. new it is $2500. I paid $500. I couldn't pass up the deal and I really like it. It is a retraxpro. I bought a rubber bed mat for $50. if you wind up in Orlando, I will sell you the hard roll up for $50 to get it out of my garage. That one is a sentryCT.

I like hard covers for security. You can get them in one piece, roll-up, tri-fold, etc. I have Diamondback SE, but I think these are more of specialty tonneau covers. I'd pick a style based on what I'm using the bed for & if I need to take the cover off from time to time, use with rack system, haul stuff on top of the cover, etc.

Instead of bedliner I went with Ford Accessories bed tray, which is like drop-in bedliner, but covers just the floors, nothing on the sides(I also added a tailgate cover). *FOUND PIC FROM INSTALL

It's all going to come down to what you primarily use the truck for and what your preferences are for a tonneau cover. There are so many to choose from, and they all accommodate various needs. Brands like Retrax, Roll-N-Lock, Undercover, BAK, Truxedo, Extang, and Gator all offer premium products to choose from.

For a liner, I can't recommend a BedRug enough! The material is easy to clean up and keeps your cargo in place. There's the RealTruck BedRug Classic Bed Liner for full coverage, the RealTruck BedRug XLT Bed Mat for bulkhead to tailgate coverage, and the trusty RealTruck BedRug Classic Bed Mat for bed floor coverage.

Feel free to PM me or email me at [email protected] to help narrow down some tonneau cover and BedRug options!

I have a gator tri-fold soft top, spray in liner and a bed rug without the sides, just the bottom and gate.

My gator hasn't been on for about 2 years because I've been using the bed. But. I would still recommend it.

My truck came with the factory drop-in bed liner. Previously I would just get bed mats but from 2005 to 2021 I drove Sport Tracs with a plastic bed.
I often need the whole bed open so I've always bought vinyl roll-up tonneaus for my trucks.
For the Ranger I got a Truxedo Truxport. Wasn't real expensive, mounts solidly, has never leaked as far as I can tell and I live in PA where it can rain for days.

When we have a customer come in the store looking for a tonneau, we try to find what they use their truck bed for and are they looking for something for added security or just to get cargo out of sight and out of the weather.

Our best seller of any style is the Extang Trifecta 2.0 (tri-fold soft tonneau). Available in the regular marine vinyl or their "Signature Series" which is more like a convertible car's top type material in looks. I have the Trifecta 2.0 Signature Series on my 2021 Ranger.
