@seasprite literally beat me - I just started typing and he posted.

Yes - Forscan is a Great piece of software and its only limitations is ease of displaying Live PID data and what PID data is available and the non-availability of Bi-Directional Control & Active Tests.
Limited to Fords - Only as well, but its main function is to change (As-Built) data.
For the price of nearly free - this is an incredible piece of software for this function alone.

So, for a multi-vehicle tool it depends on your budget and what level of functionality you want, I suggest checking out - Innova Scan Tools as a (Starter) tool and these can be found at most auto parts stores and start with the cheapest and move up the price range to note each level of functionality you gain.

I cannot speak for the lower end tools outside of Forscan as I have 3 High-End scanners now.
Auel, Top-Don and Snap-On ranging between $1500 and $5000 all great tools but all also have subscription fees to keep them updated.
So even at this price point - not all scan tools will do (EVERTHING) that the Ford Factory Scan Software (FDRS)
Other Popular (Brands) for Scan Tools (Mid to High Level) are:
X-Tool, Foxwell and Launch.
Popular Lower End, sold by most Auto-Parts stores is (Innova)
Thanks for all the suggestions. I am not a mechanic and can’t justify purchasing a tool that costs over $500.00 that I would seldom have a need for. I decided to purchase the Foxwell NT624 Elite. I found it on Amazon for $265.00.
Hopefully it will do what I need. If not I will be forced to take my truck to a Ford Service Center. I will not take it back to the one where I purchased the Ranger. They had completely lost my business for many reasons that I will not go into on here.
Once again thanks for all of the input.

Well I changed my mind and got the
Ansel FX2000 OBDII/EOBD+CAN. It showed up this morning and I was able to read the code for rear wheel speed sensor. When I removed the old wheel speed sensor it had a lot of metal stuck to it. I looked down into the hole and saw that that tone ring had broken splines. I called a Ford dealer asking if they could order one for me. He looked for several minutes but couldn’t find anything. He took my number and said he would ask the service techs if they knew anything about it. Come to find out you have to buy the complete axle assembly for that side. Cost for that is $360.00 +tax. Now I just have to decide if that is a job I want to tackle or pay my local mechanic to do the install.
More to come.

It may be a good idea to do both sides and also drain - clean and refill the differential to remove any debris that is spread throughout the differential.

Yes, the only way to get any part (needed) on the axle shafts, seal, bearing etc. you have to replace the whole axle half as they are prepressed on parts.
Fairly easy to replace as an assembly.
To do both sides - drain, clean & flush and refill - approx 3-4 hours taking your time to properly clean the remaining debris in the housing.

You can find the parts cheaper, but then you will pay shipping, so it washes out the savings.
Shaft PN: KB3Z-4234-D - $245.00ea
Nut: PN: KB3Z-4N273-A - $1.10ea (x4) per side
