Have to wonder where the world turned shit and repairing a minor ding and replacing plastic light cover and a seal started to cost 4k.

Even with inflation this should be like 200$ repair.

The good old days when we could go to the junk yard and get a lens for $5 and not have to get it reprogramed by ford, it really is crazy and we are paying for it ....

Not to mention $1,000+ tail lights..... And I shudder to think what automotive primer and paint costs per gallon these days. I know when I painted my Capri 15 years ago the paint was $800 gallon - I can only imagine what it would be today.

check the price of the tail light alone..... and then check the price of paint and clear coat ....

you can always tell the insurance comp you will buy it back for $8k then you can put a quarter panel and door on it, if you get it ford direct it will come painted too.

Tail light cover, 3rd party, chinese or 3d shop, about 20$. Paint quart 60$ (with fast activator & reducer). Dentless repair, 100$. Plus an hour to paint.

I got an estimate to repair the rear door on 2014 Ford Fusion. A new door cost $1,500, total cost including the door was $3,900.​

OEM assembly + dealer change would be that. Cheap replacement for the cover from Ali express seems to be 10$, whole assembly 170-200$ and probably comes from same factory.

I was parked, it was OEM when hit, I expect it to be as it was before it was hit, why would I allow them to replace it with a cheap aliexpress part LOL

More than that, last week I had a trailer swing out and got my tail light and its $4k they guy had good insurance so its all good, I get it back Tues. I got a rent a car too, they pointed out a few paint flicks that were not even part of it and said they will fix them too
if its more than one panel they total it....

And a small hole in a bedside costs a whole bed side...don't ask ?

10k minimum....I got side swiped by a UPS truck in a snow storm, and the damage to my truck was the entire right side; the bulk in the front right quarter. Initial insurance assessment ~10k. truck gets to the body shop and they find an additional 8k worth of damage, including windshield, front window and lower A arm=totalled. No now I'm rocking a brand new 6g. Good luck

Was hit on the interstate today by a lifted Chevy that lost control while swerving to avoid another car. I seem okay and he does too, but the truck isn't. Any idea how much this will cost insurance to repair (if they will repair it?). The door ca-thunks open and closed, and the B pillar is damaged.

I'm mainly glad I wasn't in my E46 today, otherwise I probably wouldn't be typing this right now.

Glad no one was hurt, but whatever happens it's going to be a major hassle. I hope the insurance companies involved will move fast with proper repair or replacement.

Glad you are OK. Wait a couple days to see if your neck/back starts hurting. Damage doesn't look so bad for a 5-year old ranger. wait until they look under the skin.
