Juste depends. NAPA sometimes has the Valvoline on sale making it competitively priced. Otherwise RockAuto usually wins for me, even with shipping. Last I bought was a case of Motorcraft. I'm about due to restock.

Looks like they now have a 5qt bottle as well, making it under $5/qt. That's a decent deal.

$6/qt shipped to me. That's reasonable.

Rock Auto is still running the prices shown above. I just ordered two Motorcraft 5 qt jugs yesterday along with a filter. Should have that order, plus a bottle of Lubegard, and my Fitzstick by the weekend.

It's a real good question. If anything just make sure whatever fluid you get specifies the mercon ULV. But it comes to automatic transmissions they are very picky and can have a lot of problems if you don't use the correct fluid.

With that said I just recently found out out of curiosity that motool does have a fluid compatible with work on ULV. The problem is it supposedly meets all sorts of different transmission fluid specs and I would be a little weary of it. If anyone wants to take a risk they're more than welcome to but I would be careful.

Having 8qts on hand is probably smart.

Or just order a case, or 2 5qt bottles. That will easily cover it.

Then you'll see how much you need for next time and do the math from there.

If you plan to keep your Ranger for a while, Amsoil is the best choice. Worth the $$

just for your consideration, I swore I saw that the gasket is re-usable. Just in case you’d like to save some coin.

I would go with the recommendation of 8 qts from ctechbob. I just installed a Fitz Stick and was able to pull 6.5 quarts from the pan using a cheap 12v pump from Amazon. I got the Motorcraft Mercon ULV from Amazon. Looks like I paid a little more than I would have it I ordered it from Rock Auto.
