Hi folks,

Welcome note as follows: Been wrenching on Fords for 20+ years, recently retired and I picked up a 2021 XLT, 4x4 Supercab, Cyber Orange from California (shipped via on-line dealer purchase) in DEC 24. I have and have had quite a few Ford over the years, mostly carbed vehicles so I’m not afraid to wrench. This truck is named Garfield.

Any recommendations on what I should do next – looking for convenience items or shit that looks cooler? Cost is not a big deal. #retired_DINK

I already did the following:

Changed plugs (looked good at 53K miles)

Added 2.3L foam engine cover b/c of reported water intrusion

2 in level RC N3 loaded struts

EGR Bolt-on Look Fender flares + 1.5” spacers. wheel, headlight & radar alignment

Added Ford SCAB step bars

FORD wannabe Raptor grille

Husky mats (WeatherTech aren’t my thing)

Wired in a driver’s side powered sun visor from a Lariat for Homelink

Egr Vacuum Control replacement

Flowmaster 40 and resonator delete because I like loud stuff

FORSCAN – turned off all chimes and did most common tweaks, calibrated speedo for bigger tires

Installed Uniden R8 radar detector w/mirror mount and power tap

Changed out to 2022 18” dealer take off rims and later went with larger ties 265/70/R18 because of the front level. They fit tightly so I moved the crash bars, but I have a set of ReadyLIFT high clearance coming in tomorrow.

Garfield already had the tailgate dampener, RC bed mat, factory installed bed cover, trailer tow package, securecode keyless pad (I’m a huge fan), Equipment Group 302A and technology package.

My general thoughts on this model = the trans is fishy, mpg is way less than advertised, but the truck is pretty good. I do miss my 08 FX4, but I’m not getting younger and plan to travel a little across the US so I need a little more reliability.

I’m south of Louisville, so if anyone needs help – hit me up. I’m pretty good and work for beer. ?

Welcome Ken. Good looking truck there. If I was close I'd hit you up with some beer for small jobs.

Look into the Fitzstick on this site which I haven't done.

Thanks Russ, Chuck, Steve and Doc. I'll definitely look into a trans flush and Fitzstick. In the meantime, I'll likely reset the TCM or whatever the adaptive trans setting is since the previous owner was 87 yrs old and I tend to drive as fast as humanly possible as much as I can. My summertime daily driver is a 2021 GT 500. :)
Keep any other ideas coming.

Welcome. “Transmission is fishy”, looks like it’s within the 5/60 powertrain warranty. Suggest having it looked at under the TSB 24-2101 while you still have time.
Roger that, thanks Steve. I was thinking about it since transmission issues are peppered throughout here. I might as well bring it to the dealer and reference the service bulletin. The previous owner said he brought it in twice but it was returned with no action. Third time is a charm.

Complain about the trans weekly to the dealer. Thats my only serious advice. I paid after warranty for a replacement like many have. The 2022/2023 updates are immense. My truck feels like well any truck that had less gears.

New it was like a kid throwing a temper tantrum, now its like a well rounded college grad. It got smart.

You should get a tune, especially if you like to go as fast as humanly possible.:p
Acknowledge all. I've been casually looking at them and comparing options. Im pretty much done with the big stuff so that's in the queue. Sport mode is surprising not bad, but concur that a tune is in order. It will be done. I went with my buddy to test drive a 2024 with the twin turbo V6. Shit. That truck moves. Unfortunately, old Hank's team scratched the Supercabs so a 2.3L is all my stable will have.
