Ford Ranger transmission service is to completely replace the unit at 95K miles or when it stops working...preferably not while you're in the middle of a transcontinental drive...the replacement will come with new fluid and new filter...good to go for another 95K trouble free miles...

If and when I need major tranny work, I am considering 3 courses of action.
1. Just trade it in on a 6G.
2. Just tell dealer I want the latest and greatest 10R80. Screw wasting time and money on TSB's and being without a truck.
3. Find a reputable local independent transmission shop competent in the 10R80.
I would probably opt for option 1. Just be done with it.
Wifey had issues with her '19 Edge's tranny. After some back and forth and her being without a vehicle, they ended up replacing it. Several weeks later she still had some weird issues. Also facing some front end issues with insurance from getting hung up on rebar on a parking block, we said screw it, start over. She traded in on a newer Edge and we couldn't be happier.

FWIW - for me, I'm going to opt for #3. I think it will be cheaper and most likely get a better job done.

Ended up going with the flush. I also had a coolant flushed while I was there, that was another $190. The service writer recommended trans and coolant flush at 60k. For $450 bucks for both services I wasn’t mad

I changed my fluid and added Lube Guard today. Pumped out roughly 5qts. It was black. Like coffee black. I’m at 85k miles and never touched it. Going to change the filter very soon. I already have it and an additional 10qts of fluid.

Do I need to get a new transmission pan gasket for when I change the filter? I already have the FT202 Motorcraft filter. The gasket for the pan was out of stock when I got it.

I can't remember what my flush cost (I can look it up) but I remember the line item stating something about a BG Flush.
Edit: Found it. Looks like our price difference was in the fluid. According to BG, 3154 is 4 gallons of full synthetic low viscosity trans fluid ($198). I think 4 gallons is too much, which probably explains why it was over-filled. They ended up giving me a full detail after cleaning up the aftermath.

The gasket is technically reusable. I reused mine when I did my PPE pan, but at 85k you might consider replacing it.

I was thinking about getting a new one. But wasn’t sure what it looked like or was reusable. No place online has one in stock that I can find. Even the commercial parts stores. Might have to try the dealership.
