Comparability of motorcraft and valvoline ULV

Folks I’m going to do a transmission fluid service by pumping all I can out of the fill port and replacing the exact volume. I have been researching the Valvoline ULV and would like to refill the transmission with it however since there will still be a volume of the OEM fluid I can’t get out I’m unsure about mixing the two fluids. I know several of you are running the valvoline but did a pan drop and full fluid change. So can I add back in 7 quarts of the valvoline or do I need to source the motorcraft ?

You'll be fine. I've mixed them ever since my first change. I usually buy whichever is cheaper at the time.

Due to not ordering enough motorcraft online when I did mine I ended up putting 3 more quarts of the valvoline brand in it also. Has about 8k miles mixed now. Haven’t noticed anything out of the usual other than the normal finickiness of the 10r80

As far as I've been able to find, Valvoline, per the info on the bottle, is manufactured in the US, Kentucky, from US and Imported materials. And, Valvoline is owned by Aramco in Saudi Arabia.
As for Motorcraft ULV....Motorcraft is a Ford "Name" and Ford does not produce their fluids. Conoco Oil Co seems to make a great deal of fluids for Ford, but I don't have a bottle of their fluid to check for a manufacturer name....possible its made by Conoco.
It's even possible that both fluids are made by the same company, Aramco, and branded differently.

Info only.....Valvoline ULV is on sale at NAPA for $6.49 per quart.....about as cheap as you will ever find it. Comes in a 6 quart "case".

I found this on-line....seems like there may be some little bald headed chemist in some back room at Ford who is making it.......
Then again, could be a combination of penguin pee and strained porcupine poo....

The company that produces Motorcraft ULV transmission fluid is Ford Motor Company. "Motorcraft" is Ford's own brand for automotive parts and fluids, meaning the ULV transmission fluid is manufactured and distributed directly by Ford.

Someone did a virgin sample on both motorcraft and valvoline ulv over on bobistheoilguy if you search. If i remember correctly the valvoline had a slightly higher viscosity and better additive package.

Something to keep in mind with any automatic transmission. As long as the fluid you get meets the OEM specifications, chances are you should be fine. Sometimes it is best to go to the factory and get the correct fluid. If the aftermarket offers the correct fluid then it is okay to use

Even if you drop the pan you still cannot drain what's in the torque converter. I wouldn't think twice about using different brands as long as they meet Fords spec.

That is one thing that bugs the crap out of me about any product, "distributed by...". That tells you nothing! So many food products, like store brand stuff say the same thing. I don't give a crap who distributes it, I want to know who and where it's made.

In my prior life I used to work for Kroger - I found out they are one of the largest (or used to be) private label food producers. They make all sorts of stuff and brand it for whoever wants to pay for it.
