  1. Muffler Hair SOS

yep that looks exactly like the material blowing out the tail pipe….not sure how that happened by it did. I bet by now my muffler is bald inside
  2. Muffler Hair SOS

Well I just got back from my road trip. Towed my 6k enclosed snowmobile trailer about 800 miles in total including two runs over the coquihalla summit. If that didn’t blow out the muffler hair I don’t know what will. Got the equivalent of 9.4 mpg. Still can’t tell if I love or hate this truck lol.
  3. Muffler Hair SOS

Still struggling to understand how it failed internally to the point where it's blowing the glass packing out....I've had a few cheap aftermarket mufflers do this back in the day but never an OEM unit
  4. Muffler Hair SOS

Thanks Frenchy. Good to know it's coming from the resonator. That makes it seem much less likely for a serious restriction. Glad I didn't jump right into removing the muffler LOL. I still might add a new magna flow down the road but I would like to retain the resonator so it seems like driving...
  5. Muffler Hair SOS

Well my Ranger sprouted a nice big head of muffler hair. My wife took it to have our snow tires put on in preparation for trip to Revelstoke BC and came home with the packing blowing out the tail pipe. Do any of you exhaust experts know if the resonator that's down stream of the muffler has any...
  6. OBD port fuse location

Probed #16 for constant power and got 12v. I am assuming this means the pins inside the port are somehow damaged and not making contact with the male pins on the OBD2 tool. Looks like I might have to replace the data link comm module part# JB3T-14F642-BA. If anyone else experiences a no power to...
  7. OBD port fuse location

Wondering if the OP ever resolved this issue. Im having a similar problem with no power too a scan tool from the OBD2 port....fuse is good
  8. Oil in Spark Plug Wells

I just mean shell/chevron/76 no random deep county stations like we have around here. I got the oil residue really cleaned up well using these big q tips from my gun cleaning kit so I will keep an eye on it and if the oil re appears let the dealer see what they can do. Im buried with a clutch...
  9. Oil in Spark Plug Wells

I have done all my own oil changes except for the most recent one when I was out of town and my wife took it in. I agree on the suspect excess oil residue around holes #2/3. I always wipe up every single drop if there is any when I fill the oil. With the raised lip onto of the cover that the...
  10. Oil in Spark Plug Wells

Well the latest curve ball from the Ranger has me scratching my head. Due to a miss fire at idle and concerns of water in the plug wells I decided to change the plugs at just over 30k. Hole #2 and #3 were full of oil. It was at least 1/4in up on the boot and puddled up around the plug when I...
  11. Rear inner brake pads smoked at 28k!

I agree with your description of how the truck feels with the TM off vs on. With the TM on snow mode it feels like the pedal response is very dulled down and the torque is greatly reduced to prevent the tires from breaking loose. Perhaps some of this accomplished by the computer applying the...
  12. Rear inner brake pads smoked at 28k!

Just got into some snow for the first time this season up in revy. Back roads in 4-6in fresh over compact snow/black ice. Ran in 4hi with TM set to Snow, getting a little sideways around corners having some fun. Smell of rear brakes getting really hot when I parked. Seems that something to going...
  13. Rear inner brake pads smoked at 28k!

Exact same scenario I experienced. I went over everything with a fine tooth comb and couldn’t find anything out of sorts with the sliders, pistons, or e brake. I will be checking the new pads once I get some miles on to see if the inners are wearing prematurely again.
  14. Rear inner brake pads smoked at 28k!

I never found my brakes to be mushy must of been lucky in that mine seem to have been bled and set up properly
  15. Rear inner brake pads smoked at 28k!

Pretty dry summer in OR this year and she was just doing short trips on the freeway. I’ve wondered about the traction control or something out of balance on the proportioning but as yamahaSHO pointed out the wear should still be even between the inner and outer pads when the floating pistons are...
  16. New Mountain bikes?

Turbo mode all the way !
  17. Rear inner brake pads smoked at 28k!

You are correct with the e brake engaging the inner pads. The system uses an integral parking brake assembly that extends the pistons via a winding motion when the parking brake lever rotates on the caliper
  18. Rear inner brake pads smoked at 28k!

To follow up on my rear brake issue, just completed a pad replacement and did not find an obvious cause of the extreme wear on only the inner pads. Slider pins moved very smooth and were properly greased. I did find some resistance initially to get the caliper pistons to start retracting...
  19. Brake rotors replacement.

Well for anyone attempting to service their rear brakes on the ranger you will need a caliper wind back piston retractor tool that has both a right and left hand thread. The drivers side piston must be turned in counter clockwise and the passengers side is clockwise. Make sure to use the...
