Engine oil choice is like religion to many. I've been 100% syn for at least 27 yrs.
I didn't read the OM before my first oil change, just the filler cap. "SAE 5W-30". So I've been using high quality full syn since. (Based on the cap some may have gone with mineral. No SE or other grade specified).
Recently I used up my Ford Pass points on a repair and had change left. So I bought my next oil change worth of oil and filter from the dealer with the left overs.
Ford 5W-30 Syn Blend. ...hmm. WTH, it's free so I'll use it.
...thinking Ford is a bit tight a*s. From what I gather the only advantage of syn blends is lower cost, but lacking in performance vs. syns.

OK, I threw down the glove. Tear me up.

Im lost. You are 100% synthetic but used a blend? All you seals are trash, rebuild the whole motor!

Kidding but people used to think it.
I haven't used it yet, but I will. I'm also a tight a*s. Mild duty on the truck and I'll dump the oil early.

Doesn't anybody anymore save the oil from frying their turkey and use it for their next oil change, I usually add the giblets for an extended drain interval.

I belong to iBoats forum. ...popcorn is a must with oil threads.
I prefer the mushrooms suggested in a previous post, but where do you get the ones that last 3 weeks?

I’ve seen all the oil threads and know it’s a lost cause, but just two honest questions:

Why does Ford recommend a blend?

If you change it every 5,000 miles, why would blend or full even matter?

These days, the line between synthetic and conventional is so blurred that it really doesn't matter. If the oil meets the performance spec, it will perform 'fine'. At least it will get you out of warranty.

For those of us keeping their trucks longer, we use a better oil and change it more frequently. If you're not the type of person that keeps a vehicle long term, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the MC Blend changed at whatever the OLM says.

Ironic - from a post above
Granted this happened on a GM 3.4 with 140,000 miles or so.
GM is notorious for lifter clatter at start up (cold)
Replaced lifters , noise quieted for a bit and then came back.
I decided to try Full Synthetic, well after about 1,000 miles I developed oil leaks at various seals , however the lifters did quiet down.
Switched back to conventional oil and the leaks stopped, but the lifter noise clatter when cold - returned.
So for me , granted it was an older engine and not really rated for any Synthetic oil.
I had a bad experience with it and nervous about switching to Full vs the Blend Ford recommends as of now 16,000 miles and zero leaks oil and is changed faithfully every 5k and noted only a slight darkening of the color at that interval.
