The dealer I go to cringe when I arrive because they know I will be chiseling on them. The last time the salesman told me they have been beat up enough by my negotiating.
Most of our younger generation doesn't do this. They don't want the friction and when a dealer tells them a price or they call around and they all hold the inflated price. So the consumer says ok, I guess this is the price I need to pay. Americans have become so lazy and have no sense the value of money, but they will down the road.

I have to go with my grown children because they are afraid to haggle on price. On of them gave the actual MSRP and the dealer later admitted that they would have dickered a little on price. I really like to negotiate.

I always haggle on price and I've never paid msrp for a vehicle. Luckily my Tremor had a 1,250 rebate that was emailed to me right before picking it up or that would've been the first. Only because all the dealers were still marking them up or selling for msrp at the time.

I had a great dealer/salesman when I lived back east. He was an older guy and just didn't like all the BS and would give me the best deal he could right from the start. I use to buy a new F150 (for business) from him every 3 years and never stepped foot in the dealer until it was delivered. We'd make a deal on the phone and he new from the past how nice I kept my trucks so trade ins were always more than fair. I remember spending the whole day in a Toyota dealership years ago when my girlfriend was looking for a new car. After getting up and walking out the door for the 3rd time they finally agreed on the price. He said his manager told him "I was the better salesman that day". ? But that's another trait of being Polish.?

I always go in with donuts ? and a smile for eveyone, , then i inquire about the price , then I add 20% and write ✍ that down on a piece of paper and slide it to the salesman , works every time and I can usually talk them into a free tube of touch up paint without much pushback...

Same thing happened to me when I bought a new F150 in 2001 the salesman became so frustrated that another salesman came in then the sales manager came in to negotiate and told me I was trying to buy too much vehicle. I told him that he was trying to make too much money and said thanks and went to the door at that point they accepted my offer. Then it started all over again in the finance office when I would not purchase the floor mats, door guards, paint protectant and so on. After five hours left with the truck and never used that dealer again but I really enjoyed it.

My wife won't either, but I guess the question I have; what happened between generations? Why did the concept of negotiating become something of a caveman generation? When did ADM become the norm? I'm assuming the pandemic started this trend as getting a price below MSRP wasn't hard at all, and widely accepted. Buying at MSRP was only for those they couldn't negotiate or unwilling to shop around. The latest data I saw shows auto delinquencies approaching 2008 levels and consumer debt is: "Total household debt rose by $109 billion to reach $17.80 trillion, according to the latest Quarterly Report on Household Debt and Credit."

Simply put, the deck of cards is due to collapse.

I might pick up a raptor or v6 ranger later but also I been plotting to front clip swap and interior swapping whenever they start becoming plentiful in the recycling yards.

In 2021 when I got my Tremor they had a $5k markup, due to covid I felt lucky to get them down to $500 over since I missed the bubble of low prices early during covid. There was something like $750 rebate so it basically was a hair under MSRP.

My main thing I told them was that I could get an FX4 for less and do everything the Tremor offers for way less than what they are asking. Told them it isn't a Raptor, it won't hold value like a Raptor.

When we purchased our 2023 Pilot, it was nice to work with the GM directly. I was polite but firm when their shop left a brake caliper bolt loose on our 2016. He thanked me for not being a jerk so when we wanted a new SUV we dealt with him directly. Showed us all the numbers up front on this computer. Wish every buying experience was like that one.

It is nice to have a good sales experience and there are still some good dealers out there. And yes it doesn't pay to be a jerk because most are willing to help correct a mistake and they usually remember this (when someones good/bad) to deal with the next time around.

When my '19 was totaled it was right during the transition where the '23's had just stopped being produced and the '24's were still a few months away from production. I did not want a '24 and the choices were limited on available '23's. I spent hours searching and calling dealers from coast to coast and most still had ADM's on all their Lariats/Tremors. What I would do is once I found one I liked I would look on the dealers website and find the oldest salesman they had and call him. Why? Because most of these guys have been doing this a long time and "usually" cut to the chase and give you a straight up price. I had a great experience buying my Tremor and everything was as discussed once we got there. My salesman pick us up from the airport and we were in/out out of the dealership in about 30 minutes. It was well worth the trip up to Spokane, WA.

Man, that was fast, I didn't even know you could process a vehicle transaction that fast even if it was cash. That is a good tip, find the oldest one and contact them. I am going to have to remember that one. I have never been in and out of a dealer that quickly.

I think the Honda was still like 2hrs, maybe because of the trade in though. The negotiating was super fast though because of the GM.

My dealer I get service has a few on the lot.
I like them but, going a different route when. I replace this one I think.
Of course as soon as I pulled in just to schedule service I was attacked by sales people so I had to snag a shot driving out.

Yeah an hour or two is pretty normal even when having most things worked out. We had everything worked out over the phone weeks prior to the truck even getting to the dealer. Once it arrived he sent me several pictures and a video and then I had them do a spray in bed liner and a tri-fold hard cover. I had already received the insurance money and paid for the two items before leaving. They were really on the ball because all the paper work was ready and I just had to write them a check and go through the formalities of them asking if I wanted all the overpriced extras. lol My salesman still sends me texts asking how things are going which is nice. I wouldn't hesitate to fly back there to buy another vehicle.

When I bought my 2019, I think we spent about 15 minutes signing all the paperwork. We did much of it via email before we even got there. We spent more time with the salesman in the truck than we did doing paperwork.

I refuse to spend all day at a dealer to buy a vehicle..... I will negotiate, but if they are not willing to negotiate in good faith, I leave. Doing X-Plan and ordering EXACTLY what I wanted made things so much easier and I have to say, if I had it to do all over, I'd do the same thing. I love this truck!

Yes there is nothing worse than the "Ok but I'll have to check with the manager" BS on EVERY individual bargaining point, it's so obviously fake, meant to just wear you down, and make you give up, and just wastes so much time of both parties.

Why can't you just say "I want the white one, with rubber mats, a bed liner, a roller lid, window tinting, and a tow bar",- give me your best price. I don't want or need, paint protection, "protection paks" whatever the F that is, or any other BS add-ons, unless you want to throw them in for free.
