Manufacturers spend huge bucks to get the best MPG possible, and hundreds of hours in the wind tunnel. Fine for not meeting the CAFE requirement are crazy expensive. For example, Stellantis' fine this year is $295M, GM and Ford are not far behind. Little things make a difference. It's my understanding the "lip" on the tailgate increases MPG by about 1/2 MPG. Anything that upsets the airflow, such as ski racks on the roof or bug deflectors, effects your milage.

I no longer have my '19 Ranger, but I live 35 miles from the nearest retail store, including groceries. When not in a hurry and even tho the limit was 70, I'll drive 60-65. In experimenting with various speeds, it seems once above 65 MPG begins to measurably drop. Between 60-65 my '19 would get upper 20s, the max for one tank was 30, but normal was 26-27. At 75 milage was typically 22-24. Many of the early miles on the truck were in Sport mode and milage was about 2 MPG less.

Everyone has tricks, I started my increase with new suspension that lowered the front an inch and stopped the float. This help aerodynamics and handling, then started driving 75 to 80 miles an hour all of the time and get 24.1 mpg. It was the suspension that did it, aerodynamics,. Took trip to austin tx from Cincinnati, with old suspension 20.9, then with new going 75 to 80, got 26, for a 1300 mile trip... just food for thought..

My ‘19 Lariat is get better mileage as I put more miles on it. I took a small 30 mile drive the other day, mostly flat highway averaging about 60-65mph. It went up to 27.4mpg. If I stay off the throttle in D it does pretty good so I’d say that’s the only trick for me. I will admit though, most of the time I’m in S mode romping on it.

I believe I could have done better but when it hit 27.4 I got off the highway (took a pic) and used side streets rest of the the way home.

Using Sunoco Plus 89 octane, 30psi in the stock tires. My only engine mods are Roush CAI, Velossa Tech BM, aFe Air Intake Scoop and MBRP Dual Exhaust.

Over the last year I have run tests with different grades at 3 different stations, I get the best (22.8mpg) at Sunoco 94 oct, next is (21 MPG) at Mirabito 92 Oct. Non-Eth, next down 21.2 at Speedway and last (17.8 mpg), I ran 87 Oct. shit gas at an out of the way station, and "Once" coming back from MD/D.C area I got a tank of Mobile high grade and was getting 26.5 MPG on the way back but over all this year Highway/City/Towing mix matched gas stations Ave. I have gotten 20 MPG and I am very happy with that for a Truck!
I bean count LOL take a lot of cell picts of the cluster so I can look back and see what miles I was at on any given date and what I was getting MPG miles since oil change ....

Got to love these mileage threads. Everyone reporting these fabulous MPGs on short or non-stop highway runs. Sort of like watching the instantaneous mileage gauge. "OH, I get 99 mpg coasting down hill!"

What really matters is what you get long term, day to day, stop and go, all driving conditions. That's what it is costing you. Like @AzScorpion said it's a truck, drive it, use it, enjoy it. If it is great mileage you want buy a hybrid or EV, just don't try and haul or tow anything.

I log my mileage (mentally) by tank. This lets me know if something is off on a per tank basis. The overall mileage is about the same. I have 2 trackers on my truck. the first is reset every change. The second is reset never (or when I flash the tune).

That's why I never reset my Trip 2 mileage, to get good long term mileage data.

All these hypermiling techniques can help your mpg, but taken to the extreme, can drive everyone else around you insane. Everybody hates the Prius you're stuck behind going 50mph up the hill and then you can't pass them when they're going 80 down the other side. Be smart about it.

One thing about turbo powered, electronic wastegate equipped, drive by wire vehicles have in common (this is my 5th) is that they are designed to get great mileage in perfect conditions, but any combination of wind, rain, snow, load etc. will cause it to drop, sometimes precipitously.

My family lives 200mi. away, and I visit often. Other than short detours to avoid traffic or a wreck, the route is exactly the same. I usually drive 73mph but at times get up to 80 for a short stretch. No heavy foot for passing. I use the same fuel (BJ's regular). My best fuel mileage one way has been 26.5mpg calculated. My worst has been 22.6 mpg calculated. The weather normally comes from the west on this east/west route, so eastbound almost always uses less fuel than the other way.

My take is that conditions have a much more significant impact to your fuel mileage than any driver's technique, unless they are taken to the extreme.

Going with 91 alcohol free gas gets me 26.5 @ 65-70 mph. Only cost me $0.55 per gallon more and its pretty much a wash for the increase in the mileage.
Absolutely the best way to increase mileage 91 no alcohol gas and I get 26 mpg.

There's already an average MPG in the sub menu...I use the second trip OD for oil change reminder...

After I found out the best I'm ever going to achieve is 24 mpg over a tank (and think about it too much in the process,) I've found I'm pretty zen about the 21.5 mpg average I seem to achieve driving "the way I drive" for 35,000 miles. In my opinion for a pickup truck that's fantastic.
